Over 200 years ago, right after George Washington picked the District as the new capital of the United States, Good Ol' George demanded, "The capital of the United States of America needs a kick ass rock 'n roll radio station to keep up the rebellious Spirit of '76," and to honor his wishes, DC101 - DC's 1 and Only (and now best) Rock Station was born... yup, that's exactly how it happened. You really shouldn't question it - we ARE ALWAYS historically accurate! :p
Believe it or not, DC101 first aired in the 1940s... if you're thinking "that was a long f-ing time ago," then you would be exactly right. And to top it all off, it was easy listening (crazy (and lame?), right?) and even though we weren't playing Black Sabbath, Fall Out Boy, or Pearl Jam way back then, we still rocked out (to much milder and less head-bang worthy tunes). But don't worry, we were still just as awesome - I mean, it WAS the 1940's.
It all went uphill when DC101 switched from easy-listening to rock in the '70s - we signed on the loveliest man to ever be born into this world, Howard Stern, who was (however unfortunate it may have been) eventually fired in '82 and replaced by The Greaseman, (who is NOW back on the air Saturday mornings until noon!! So if you see us at concerts and want to tell us to bring him back, you will be wonderfully delighted by the news!).
And (as if this isn't the best segway ever...) as you all should know, Elliot In The Morning has aired since the late '90s from "5:48 until 10-something" in DC and Richmond, VA and has been fined and suspended a bunch of times for being so damn awesome - that's why we love him and his crew so much. Plus don't forget (how could you?!?) that we have the best f-ing weekday line up on the East Coast... Elliot, Whitney, Roche, and Travis... are you not entertained, DC? (And we can never forget our weekend DJ's either!!)
DC101 hosts events pretty much every week... so check out our events page at DC101.com and our shows listed a little bit higher on this very page.
We always have something fun for you to do so that you can't complain that you're bored in the DC Metropolitan Area! :)
We (will always) love you DC (and MD/VA)! Thanks for all your support and don't stop listening :)
