I covered most of these in my "About me" section. I am interested in what makes some people tick. I envy those who find the greatest epiphanies out of things most take for granted. I am interested in how to go deeper; my personality type doesn't allow for it. It is a shame that I am mostly a shallow guy that poses as someone who thinks profoundly, but doesn't fool anyone.
If I had a chance to sit and have coffee with anyone (living or dead), it would be Henri Nouwen, Thomas Merton or perhaps CS Lewis. I want to talk to those who have figured out the meaning of true solitude and can possibly teach an ounce of their understanding to me.
What I want for Christmas:
Try Me! I am the STARBUCKS ORACLE!!!
I love old, smokey jazz and blues, most classical, avant garde, eletronic(a), house, some aggro and industrial, any good guitar rock, progressive rock and metal. Basically any music where the gift was given naturally.
It is my circle of friends that dominate this category. I have never been a movie buff. Fav Actors: Ed Norton, Eric Bana, Christian Bale, Delroy Lindo, Hugo Weaving, etc.; Actresses: Franke Potente, Tilda Swinton, Zooey Deschanel, Julia Stiles. Movies: (In no particular order) Hunt For Red October, The Bourne franchise, West Side Story, Stigmata, Barry Gordy's The Last Dragon, Christmas Vacation, H2G2, Pan's Labrynth, The Last Starfighter... Oh yeah, and Run Lola Run!
I was a couch potato through the 80s and 90s. Cosby Show, Cheers, Home Improvement, SNL, M*A*S*H, etc. Deadliest Catch is amazing. I really don't like network TV anymore.
"I'd like a dry martini, Mr. Quoc, a very dry martini. A very dry, arid, barren, desiccated, veritable dustbowl of a martini. I want a martini that could be declared a disaster area. Mix me just such a martini."
- Hawkeye Pierce, M*A*S*H
I like Henri Nouwen, Douglas Coupland, Dan Simmons, Douglas Adams, Thomas Merton, Clive Staples Lewis, Michael Yaconelli, etc. In the near future I would like to explore some of the medieval Christian mystics and saints. I really don't read a lot, but it seems what I do read is usually a good choice.
"This is the bitterest pain among men, to have much knowledge but no power."
-Herodotus, The Histories of Herodotus
Greek historian & traveler (484 BC - 430 BC)
My dad, Ryne Sandberg (a childhood idol), Henri Nouwen, and anyone that has put up with me for years and never complained (openly!).
