I'm a midwest boy. I was born in Detroit, Michigan. However, my dad was in the Air Force so we moved around a lot. I went to high school in upstate New York. My dad retired at Luke Air Force Base in Phoenix, Arizona which is how I ultimately ended up living out west. Between being an Air Force brat, athletic endeavors, and education I have lived and visited many different places within the U.S. Even though it has grown a lot, one of my favorite places is the Washington, D.C. area. (D.C., northern Virginia, and Maryland) I have mixed genes (like most people these days) black, english, french and blackfoot indian. That's why I have a tan. My patients often asked me “What nationality are you?”
I'm a surgeon. I do LASIK surgery. Since I finished my ophthalmololgy training in 2000, I've performed over 70,000 surgeries, more than most in the world. Becoming a very experienced LASIK surgeon in such a short amount of time wasn’t planned. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time. I work as an independent contractor in Phoenix and I opened my own surgery center in Los Angeles about 3 years ago. My goal is to open up more centers but be more of the business owner instead of being in the O.R. all the time. I am slowly but surely moving in that direction. I still love doing surgery though and, of course, I get excellent results. :-) Many of my patients call me "magic hands". I have a place in Scottsdale and a place in Santa Monica....and tons of Southwest Airlines rapid rewards points!
For the most part running this business has dominated my life. There are so many moving parts to deal with...none of which was taught in medical school of course. Not only do i have to do the surgeries but I also have to deal with the marketing and advertising, employee issues and pay the bills :-( and the bills keep on coming let me tell you. I have already hired other doctors and staff which has given me alot more free time. I love to travel.
Ahhh, what else?
There's this one homeless dude who wears glasses. He hangs out near my office. He's nearsighted. I promised him I would do his surgery for free. So, I did his eye exam last week and his surgery on friday. After the surgery I walked him outside and all his homeless friends were out there waiting for him. It was pretty cool. The next morning he was seeing 20/20 and he was very happy. He's 45 and has been wearing glasses since age 14 he said. He said he's going to call his mom. (he's from St. Louis)
I'm pretty spontaneous and, in general, live life without fear. I love to travel and hope to explore the world soon. i also love to workout, sleep (when i get the chance), read, the beach and nature in general, movies, music.

My Interests

Lifting, running on the beach, Santa Monica stairs, tennis, yoga, basketball, hiking, bookstores, coffee shops, traveling, exploring, sushi, trying food from different cultures, shopping for workout clothes, shoes(love my nike frees) and unique scrubs to wear in the o.r. My patients and staff never know what color scrubs I'll show up in. I even have pink scrubs. Oh, don't laugh. I look fly in them. ;-)

I'd like to meet:

You!

Music:

I listen to all sorts of music in my car, in the office, in the o.r.

Movies:

Action, suspense, mystery, drama, sci fi, a few chick flicks if I'm with the right chick ♥ I just finished watching season one of Prison Break and season one of 24. My sleeping habits are shots now. Watched the first episode season one of Lost. I like Nip/Tuck but my life is Nip/Tuck.

Television:

Do I even have time to sit down and watch tv? If I do it's usually to watch some sporting event and, even then, it has to be playoff time. I like to catch the game or competition during crunch time to see who will make the big play to win. OK, ok, I've watched a few movies on The Lifetime Channel too. (nooooooooooooooooooooo!)

Books:

I mostly read stuff about being an entrepreneur. Magazines like Business 2.0, Inc and Entrepreneur. Most recent book was "The Art of the Start" by Guy Kawasaki. Devoured the "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" series a couple of years ago. Will I ever truly reach that damn "B" quadrant?

Heroes:

Any successful business owner who started their company from scratch. Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan.
