About Me

Wrong Records is a diverse New York City based independent record label, owned by producer and songwriter Daniel Wise (SCISSOR SISTERS, SECRET MACHINES, MACEO PARKER, JOHN MAYER, and more). Our mission is to bring you, the people, cool new music of all kinds that you otherwise may not hear. Wrong Records is the home of a professional high-end recording studio ( The Shed ) which is used for our own acts as well as other labels.
Our current roster:
TRUST THE MAN - Soundtrack- OUT SEPTEMBER 5, 2006
Wrong Records will release the soundtrack for Trust The Man, featuring Ben Harper, Rachael Yamagata, Chocolate Genius and many others, including Wrong's own Libby Johnson. A smart, sophisticated comedy about the challenges of love and marriage among modern day New Yorkers,Trust the Man features the romantic escapades of two couples: a successful actress (Julianne Moore) and her stay at home husband (David Duchovny); and her slacker younger brother (Billy Crudup) and his aspiring novelist girlfriend (Maggie Gyllenhaal). In stores September 5, 2006.
LIBBY JOHNSON - Annabella- OUT SEPTEMBER 5, 2006
The co-founder of the critically acclaimed Universal / Zero Hour recording artist 22 BRIDES is back with her solo debut on Wrong Records. Libby delivers music with a plain spoken eloquence, reminiscent of the work of Chrissie Hynde, Joe Henry or Tom Petty. Her intense lyrical urgency, is brought to life by her smoky, rhythmic vocal delivery and lovely melodies while her arresting voice traffics in equal helpings of heartbreak and defiance.
MICHAEL WOLFF - Love and Destruction- OUT OCTOBER 3, 2006
Michael Wolff is a prodigious and brilliant modern jazz artist who creates an exotic and sophisticated fusion of rock, alternative, blues and world beat music. His impressive credentials include work with Sonny Rollins, Nancy Wilson, Jean-Luc Ponty, Cannonball Adderly. Wolff was the musical director for the popular "Arsenio Hall Show," a position he held for the full 5-year run of the show. In 2007 he returns to TV in the Nickelodeon's "The Naked Brother's Band," starring his two sons, Nat and Alex, written and directed by wife Polly Draper. Serving up an intensely creative stew of sensual and soulful music for the late night hipster, swinging both poignant and funky, Wolff blends atmospheric rock with a rich and heartfelt jazz improv groove.
ADRIENNE FRANTZ - Anomaly- OUT NOVEMBER 2006
You may know her best as the mischievous "Amber Moore Forrester" on CBS's popular daytime drama The Bold and the Beautiful. After 9 years on the show, Adrienne has taken a hiatus to pursue her music career, and the result is an incredibly diverse rock record set to release Worldwide in late 2006. Stay tuned for music and video previews. Visit www.adriennefrantz.com for more info.
FREE RANGE OVERGROUND - Kill Your Idol- OUT NOW
Free Range Overgrounds chill vibe and knack for great hooks hit you like a blast of cold air on a hot summer day. Maybe thats because this trio of accomplished musicians bring their unique sound on their first US release all the way from the great northern island of Iceland. Like Sigur Ros but with lyrics that are actually in a real language (English, fortunately) and compact, structured songs, FROGs are going to rock you with the force of the ballistic missle from which they derive their name.
EVEN THE ODD - Popular Among Van Owners- OUT NOW
An hour's drive from Detroit, in the town of Ortonville, MI, something is happening - a return to the basics of rock music. Ben Hornbeck (Vocals and Guitar), Joey V (Bass) and Ryan Darnell (Drums) of Even the Odd are bringing it like your older sister's boyfriend. You want to hate him because he's cooler than you, he doesn't give a shit about you and if you step to him, he'll run over your BMX in his Firebird. This is not a garage band, this is not an emo band, this is not a metal band; this is a rock and roll band.
AMERICA IS WAITING - In The Lines EP- OUT NOW
Eyes have been focused on America Is Waiting for a few years now The band has been nurturing a formidable groundswell in their native Southwest, as well as touring nationally with Muse, And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead, and Hell Is For Heroes. Reviews of both their indie release and their live shows have been nothing but phenomenal and, now that theyre ready to tackle the rest of the country, they have their musical bulldozer pointed directly at the tired and static music world. Inspired by the likes of Shellac, The Jesus Lizard, Nirvana, and the Melvins, America Is Waiting knows how to take a riff, turn it upside down, and make it sound wholly and completely new.
COTTONBELLY - X Amounts of Niceness- OUT NOW
Cottonbelly is Stuart Matthewman, the Grammy-winning songwriter, multi-instrumentalist musician, soundtrack composer and producer behind Sade and Sweetback. Stuart has played guitar, sax, and handled programming duties for every Sade album, sales of which have totaled over 40 million albums worldwide. Stuart was also a key player in the early success of Maxwells career, and has worked regularly as a film composer, composing the soundtrack to the hit 1999 independent movie "Twin Falls Idaho" and the follow-up Polish Brothers films "Jackpot" and "Northfolk" (starring James Woods and Nick Nolte).
X Amounts of Niceness is Stuart Matthewmans long-awaited debut solo album a limited edition of which (made solely for his friends) ended up selling on eBay for over $250 recently. It is a sonic journey into Matthewmans distinctly warm and accessible sound and a groove exploration deep into post-dub territory. The album encompasses ten years of both outstanding original tracks and well thought-out remixes for the likes of reggae legend Gregory Isaacs, Sade, Cirque Du Soleil, Ananda Project, Seek, Sky-Fi, Noiseshaper and Maxwell.
EMOK - Shove Your Head Into the Ground and Feed It To The Earth- OUT NOW
Emok are a hard-hitting, precedent breaking three piece whose members all originally hail from Israel, currently residing in Brooklyn. Shove Your Head into the Ground and Feed It to the Earth is a collision of composition and cacophony; intellect and emotion; heritage and progression. Emoks music has a pronounced Middle Eastern influence stemming from their Israeli upbringing, but restated as an explosive, intense, thoroughly modern -- even futuristic -- style uniquely their own. The songs on Shove Your Head into the Ground and Feed It to the Earth are whirling storm systems sonic hurricane force colored with vivid distortion and crackling slipstreams of harsh electronic samples.
