S.K. was born in the summer of 1997. As I returned from a 6-year family bid overseas (yes, I'm an ex-military kid, now military man), two cousins of mine pulled me into a dark, hot room lit by one lamp and introduced me to the microphone. I was already deep into music, but only from the consumer end. It turned out I had the instrumentals, and they had the rhymes. They gave me a mic, and I ran with it. Shortly after that I began writing rhymes with my cousins, and while we collectively only put one track down on tape, we enjoyed what we were doing. Soon one of those cousins wanted to hook up and do more work, which is exactly what we did through the end of my high school years. I also hooked up with two heads up in VA by the name of T-Bone (now Raz-P) and UBG, who is no longer rhyming. Together we shared a love of rapping. These two fellow emcees informed me that it'd be kind of hard to spread the word about myself without a name. I'd been rhyming for two years with no name for myself. With my penchant for penmanship, and my love of history, I chose the moniker "Skrybe." It has been my name since. In 2001 I released "First Outta The Gate (EP)", to very little fanfare, and rightfully so. I recorded several songs with several people in 2002, sadly none of which I kept. It was in 2003 that Skrybe decided to put down the pen, if only for a short time, and begin working on production. Like most of my homies, I did it out of necessity. I can't afford a $1,000 beat, let alone a $5,000 or $10,000 beat. The easiest solution? Create my own. S.K. the producer was here. 2004 saw the hookup of Skrybe & DCT, owner and creator of Urbanizm Music. Along with our other label members we forged a bond, and stepped forward to create our own niche in the industry, off the strength of purely good music. With a lot of coaxing from DCT (okay, only a little), Skrybe has once again begun to pick up the mic, this time doing it under my own production (along with the production of various UM producers). Stay tuned. The best is yet to come.
