Speaks For Itself Mixtape coming soon!!!!!!

About Me

The mind of a rebel with actions of the next nigga- Akshun “Group Home Freestyle”This line describes Akshun’s demeanor as a whole. From a young kid to a grown man, with experience and perseverance, he has been able to overcome the many obstacles an artist may stumble upon many a time in their career.Akshun has always had a love for music. Coming from a musical family, with many members involved in music activities from the teaching aspect to performing, it has always been in his blood. Discovering Hip Hop from his father’s mixtapes of the early 1980’s, he was fascinated by the words painted by the musicians who stood for something. He admired Chuck D and Boogie Down Productions for their convincing reports of the inner city, racism, and knack for knowledge. It was a source for information school didn’t teach. It explained why the world acted as it did. It was a dear inspiration to pursue something regarding reaching the people one way or another, whether it was music, teaching, or politics. Being in a military family, which he was able to travel to places such as Germany, Honduras, and Panama. He was exposed to different styles of music, as well as a variety of people who enjoyed different forms of Hip Hop, from the West Coast gangster anthems, to the East Cost boom bap. This gave him an open mind regarding the culture and its many styles lead by various regions, which would be later included in his music.Akshun didn’t actually pursue the art of emceeing until he moved to Columbia, South Carolina in 1994. There he would meet other local artist who inspired him into focusing on a rap career of his own. He was a mainstay at the lunch room ciphers, learning the art of freestyling and battling throughout his time in high school. Known for packing an arsenal of punchlines and complicated rhyme schemes, he became a favorite amongst the fellow students at Richland Northeast High School. It wasn’t until after High School though, after a harsh break-up with his first love, that he found his niche’ in music. After discovering the Non Stop Hip Hop Live showcase in 2001, Akshun became to be known as a conscious emcee who speaks from the heart. He began to gather a following of supporters, including some of the local elite, which included Dan Johns, CEO of Magnum Opus records, who invited him to a recording session for the dismantled project “Comrades”. After what became the classic “Sit Back”, he was asked to join the “One Man Army” in taking Magnum Opus Records to the next level.Since joining Magnum Opus (a.k.a. Mag-O), Akshun has been involved with several local projects and has participated in a number of shows. Sharing the same stage with the likes of KRS-ONE, E-Famm, Masta Ace, Kool G Rap, The Justus League, Supastition, Kev Brown, and many others, he has began to make himself a force to be reckoned with. With the release of his debut album “The Diamond District” in December of 2004, he hopes to become one of South Carolina’s key artist, along with broadening the Magnum Opus brand across state and national Borders.
