About Me

THE FALL OF CORINTH refers to the complete destruction of a city, its people and its lands. It is a merciless and unrelenting attack that is meant to serve as a warning for other possible dissenters. When we were writing the songs that would become THE FALL OF CORINTH, that was the mindset we had. This was an album that was intended to bring a sense of cohesion to the changes our sound has gone through since the bands beginning. It has elements of both of our previous releases, the rocking, guitar driven sound of HEARTBROKEN AND HUNGOVER and the more technical and heavy aspects of I LOVED HER MORE WHEN SHE WAS DEAD. It felt like a much more natural progression for us, we took a lot more time to write the songs than we had in the past. I think that as a band, we felt like neither of our releases lived up to their potential. THE FALL OF CORINTH delivers on the promise that our other releases held: well-crafted, powerful songs that transcend genre and defy conventional labeling.
Its no secret that our lyrics have always been very personal, sometimes to a fault. For some reason Nathan has never been able to write convincingly about something outside of himself. I think that is purposeful though. Its so much easier for a band to get on stage and scream about politics, or whatever cause gets them off, but its infinitely harder to lay yourself bare in front of a sea of strangers, to create something they can appreciate on a deeper level than a string of clichés about roses and skulls and how much you hate your ex-girlfriend. For THE FALL OF CORINTH, the personal narrative is still there, but its much more introspective and also self-consciously tongue in cheek at times. The songs take a harder look at how we ultimately shape the disasters we find ourselves in. The songs loosely describe a kind of conquest, though in the end the protagonists are neither victorious nor who they were when they set out. Superficially, there is a call to arms, an ill-fated journey, a march to battle, and a climactic assault on the city. The story is much more complex and ambiguous than that, but thats the general idea.
