"Soul Kiss"! This started out as just a few friends congregating for Christmas, sharing a few laughs and reconnecting with one another. Three years later we've watched this movement grow from just a grass roots concept to a full blown weekend! We've had cookouts, Skating parties and Open Mic nights all in conjuction with our "Soul Kiss" theme. Our focus is giving our audience something different, something fresh! If you like good old soul music or "Neo soul" as they call it now then check us out......Below are just a few pluggers from previous events
Cool SlideshowsMy interests are very broad, but more than anything I love music! I grew up in a household where music was a very prominent part of my life and developed a love that still carries on today. I'm into artists that aren't mainstream and that have something to say, none of this garbage they play on the radios today. I also love most sports and traveling. I play chess when I can find a good game, but for some reason the most brothas I've met that play spent some time behind bars.....why is that? Unfortunately the joint is the "New University" for a lot of brothas.Check out the Dopest poet breathing! "Talaam Acey"
I think the person I'd like to meet the most would be Nelson Mandela. His life, his story is truly one of struggles and success. I would love to know what kept him going in his darkest hours and how it feels to have a nation of people that believes in you. Now in "Real Life" I love meeting positive people and anyone that's grounded. My childhood friends set the bar a long time ago on the type of people I deal with in my adult life. Throughout the peaks and valleys of your life real friends always have your back or at the very least they are sitting next to you saying " Man, WE shouldn't of done that"! LOL!
I grew up on house music coming from IL, however as I've gotten older I love good soul music which they label "neo soul" nowadays. My favorite artists are Bilal ( Where are you brotha?)Anthony Hamilton, Conya Doss { This sistah is incredible!!),Maysa, Amel Larrieux, Ledisi, Dwele, Raheem DeVaughn,Ab (This brotha is a hidden gem), Eric Roberson, Goapele, Leela James, Calvin Richardson, Yahzarah, Marlon Saunders, Jill Scott, Julie Dexter, N'Dambi, Wayna,Omar, Musiq, Anthony David, Peven Everett Kindred, D'Angelo, Erykah Badu, (Can't forget Robbi!! I just fell across this sistah and her sound is awesome. Something about a woman and a guitar....Doesn't hurt to be fly as hell either!) Mos Def,Common, Talib Kweli, Little Brother and India.Arie. If you read down this far I've got to put you on to an up and coming cipher of emcee's called Royal Souls. They are a young, talented group of brothas that has some potential to make some noise in the rap game.I added them to my favorites list and they are on my friends list if you want to hear them. My lil' nephew is the cat with the moniker "King Deucez" and he does a lot of their beats! Check 'em out when you can....
Training Day, Brown Sugar, City Of God to name a few....
Sci-Fi, History Channel, Discovery Channel, ESPN, The Shield, The Wire or anything that makes me think.
Nathan Mccall "Make Me Wanna Holla", Ralph Ellison " Invisible Man" are my favorites!
My Father! It's amazing when you look back at your parents and say "How did they do it?" in reference to raising you. I didn't even realize we were poor until I was grown! LOL! Thanks a bunch dad!!
