It all began when reggae singer Kwesi Selassie was putting together a backing band for a one-off gig, and Sam Weller, Raffa Dean, and Gary Lowe were chosen and hired. In conversation, the musicians referred to the fact that together, with the addition of a stronger rhythm section and lead vocal, it would create a band that dreams are made of. Enter singer-songwriter Hermina George and guitarist Laza; the Dream Band was born and they haven’t looked back since.Hermina George has a voice of honey and gold.Sam Weller, the keyboard player, is an accomplished producer and studio owner.
Gary Lowe is a world-renowned bass player. He is the lead bassist for Big Sugar, a founding member of the long time Toronto reggae heroes Truths and Rights.Raffa Dean is commonly referred to as the best drummer in Toronto. Growing up down the street from Bob Marley in Kingston 2 was beneficial, by the time the young Raffa was 16, he’d already played with Marley, Peter Tosh, and the Mighty Diamonds.Laza was born with a guitar in his hand. Having opened a club in Florida as a young man, he experienced both the administrative and performance sides of this business of music, and it has served him well.Featuring some of Toronto’s hottest session players and stage artists, the Dream Band will rock your world with their high caliber of musical performance and the cohesion of its musicians.
