About Me

JP is now with The Killerinas, The Angry Wigs & Band Since Wednesday. The solo project is pretty much on hold indefinately.Jocelyn Porter Project is a creative ensemble of intense vocals and guitar by singer/songwriter and Erie, Pa native Christine Volk.Influenced by such artists as Joni Mitchell, Patti Smith, Johnny Cash, Jimmi Page, George Harrison and others, Christine began playing guitar in garage bands and in seedy venues at the age of 13.Eventually, playing stale cover songs and being the token chick in male-dominated bands led her to the creation of Jocelyn Porter Project. The name sake of her catharsis is a tribute and thanks to her family for their creative support particularly her mother, a freelance writer and poet who writes under the penname of Jocelyn Porter. In spring of 2003 Volk released her debut CD, Metaphors & Musings.Seven emotionally driven tracks on this release are snapshots in time, which the artist believes listeners will relate to as they deal with issues of human nature, interpersonal relationships and the struggle of forging ahead in the face of loss and defeat. To hear Jocelyn Porter Project on iTunes copy & paste to your browser:http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/vi ewAlbum?playListId=157679301

Christine Volk never met a metaphor she didn't like. In fact, she's so fond of that literary device that she's named her decade-in-the-making solo CD "Metaphors and Musings." Take "Bad Dog," the stark, harrowing first track. A woman is so subservient to her significant other that she compares her relationship role to a dog that's willing to do anything to please his master. "I'm a bad dog, and I need to be put down," she sings. On "Rereading You," Volk likens a lover to a good book she can't put down. Then there's "Insect," the musical equivalent of a Franz Kafka/David Cronenberg merger. "I'll never forget that night when you turned into an insect right before my eyes. I'll never forget that night when you up and metamorphosized," Volk sings caustically, her voice dripping contempt.
