Why?If you are a fan of the Chicago Cubs, than you have absolutely heard of the "Cubs Curse". The Chicago Cubs haven't been to the World Series in over 60 years. Many people think the legendary goat has something to do about this. According to a Chicago legend William Billy Goat Sianis, a Chicago tavern owner and die-hard Chicago Cub fan, placed a curse on the team after his goat was not allowed into Wrigley Field for game 4 of the 1945 World Series. The goat even had a ticket but the ushers had to eject Sianis and his goat when surrounding fans began to complain about the smell. Both the owner and the goat left the stadium disappointed.
On the way out of Wrigley, Sianis yelled that a World Series would never be played again in Wrigley Field. The Chicago Cubs lost that game and the Detroit Tigers won the 1945 World Series.
The Chicago Cubs have not played in a World Series since that time, and have not won one since 1908. Many Chicago Cub fans feel that the Cubs Curse can be broken. They even allowed a goat into the park on opening day in 1984. The Cubs won the division that year, but lost to the San Diego Padres before getting to the World Series. The goat showed up again in 1994 because the Cubs lost their first 12 home games. The team won that next game, but then the season was ended early due to the strike.
The goat appeared to try to break the curse again in 1998. The Cubs made the playoffs that year, but the Cubs Curse lived on as they lost to the Braves in the playoffs. In 2003 the curse proved it was still alive during the National League Championship series when a Cubs fan (Steve Bartman) grabbed a fly ball preventing Moses Alou from getting the out. The Cubs ended up losing that game and the next sending the Florida Marlins to the World Series.
The Cubs Curse is obviously still alive.
