Band Members: I am a vinyl deejay, who performs professional dj services, spins funk, hip hop, classic rock, reggae on occasion, and some strains of techno.I also perform on the tables with "One Up -the acoustic dj-" a local rock, reggae, hip hop band, and play djembe with Julian of "Hear for Now."The music on my site is a collection of beats I produce on the various gear I have collected the past 21 years. Most beats are produced on the Roland Mc 303 groovebox, and when I'm in deep R.E.M. sleep, I use the mpc 2000xl and Thes One's record collection...To Hire Dj Dan K or -One Up/The Acoustic Dj- email [email protected] with the date of the event, time, and some reasonably-arranged dollar signs.Just something to think about... Dj Dan K is also an experienced drywall journeyman, and does side jobs, patches, entire houses, metal stud framing, and works for trade. Use the same email address with similar info. please.
Influences: Top 6 Full Albums: Rage Against the Machine "Evil Empire", James Brown "Handfulls of 45's and mid 90's hip hop", Portishead "Live in NYC", the Prodigy "Music for the Jilted Generation", Collective Soul "S.T.", The Roots "Do You Want More?" Rage and Collective Soul were the basis of music I loved early on. The boomy drums and funky rhythms form the basis of what I like in music. My mother and I listened to the oldies station alot in the car when I was younger, and I think I must have heard James Brown at this time. Ever since, I've searched to locate or recreate this idealized funk. I.e, the basis of my synthesis, and vinyl quest. Tom Morello of Rage opened my mind to the "Scratch." His creative rhythms, and unique staccato style, mixed with the scratches of Portishead's Andy Simon, and the Beastie Boys' Dj Hurricane, formed the basis of my studies in turntable manipulation. I have spent alot of time in my room, moving fader and turntable with my eyes closed, and waiting for the right sound. My later tutilidge came from scratching over jazz. Miles and Hancock have taken me a long way. In the summer of 2002 I met Julian, One Up, and Alex J. These musicians, and many others starting with JC, Ryan, Anthony and the Bens, have taken me from a bedroom dj, to a performing musician on the turntables. A few events have tempered my dj experience, namely; playing for a crowd of angry journey-loving wedding goers with no journey, house parties where drunk girls dance into my record collection, feeling unsafe because I don't own any 2 Pac yet, playing at a party with more young kids then adults, the shows where no-one shows, getting to scratch over Ginger Browne, and playing in Redding with four hardcore bands who hate you just cause your band is more rock-reggeaish. My beats have come from a love of live hip hop. I try to mix drum machine and synthesizer with live bass, guitar, piano, organ and percussion. Just mix the Prodigy with Roots, that's the sound I'm looking for.
Sounds Like: The relevance and energy of hip hop, mixed with skilled musicianship, brought together with the purpose of entertainment and inspiration. There is hope for music amongst the influence of money, greed, and over-generalization.
