It might have started way back in the 4th grade but K. Krash's hunger
for everything Hip-Hop is as insatiable today as it was back then. It is that
hunger that has allowed him to transcend the multiple elements and moods of
Hip-Hops culture to make him the proficiently well-rounded artist he is today.
As a kid he used to love watching his mother
practice her dance routines for the clubs and dance contests she would go to.
So when Hip-Hop's arrow struck his heart, he naturally gravitated towards Break
Dancing. As he began soaking up the Hip-Hop culture, he learned the art of Graffiti
and took his already developed artistic
skills and applied them to airbrushed shirts and spray painted walls. It
didn't stop there. He wanted to pick his own songs to "break" to so he took
up D.J.ing. Before you knew it he was mixing and scratching with the best of
them. Then he started to become the go-to D.J. for some aspiring M.C.'s. He
was inspired by their ability to control the crowds with the microphone as he
did with the turntables, so as one would guess by now he devoted himself to
becoming a wordsmith and became somewhat of a novelty as a rhyming D.J. Through
necessity he had to teach himself how to make beats
for his rhymes as oppose to just mixing, so he learned how to produce.
Honing his multiple musical talents eventually
landed him in a NYC underground Hip-Hop group called " The
Arsonists " as a Producer/M.C. Through his experiences in that group he started
his own record label (S.U.B. Records), a licensed production company (Kriminal
Productions), garnered an independent distribution deal (thru Fat
Beats ) and put out his own record single entitled "Blacklisted"( Helixx/Anomolies , Jise/Arsonists). Despite
the shoe-string budget he was able to get enough exposure to be
reviewed in several publications including 'Rap Pages', and 'The Source'.
'Time Magazine' even went so far as to say that the record was one of "the best
songs to come out" that year.
The reviews led him to an opportunity to
work with an organization called " Raptivism ",
which was putting together a musical compilation to benefit their politically
conscience cause. He was able to produce and contribute a song named "LunchBreak"( Anomolies )
released on the compilation album called "No More Prisons" that featured various
well-known industry artists. The gaining recognition made it easier for him
to relocate to London, England and start a U.K.
branch to his production company, Kriminal Productions U.K. To branch out
even further he built and published his own website to highlight the beats and
artists he was developing.
The common thread to all these experiences is the do-it-yourself
attitude that underlines every aspect of his musical career. This has allowed him to achieve several
things like Break Dancing at modest venues for up and coming rappers, starting an amateur graffiti
art business painting murals, clothing, backdrops and logos. Having his own D.J. mix show on college
radio as well as having a weekly Club venue to D.J. Also performing at the Rock Steady Anniversary three
years in a row as an M.C. with industry artists. Plus lets not forget starting a record label highlighting
his musical production that is also supported by his self designed website .
Even though his main focus now is producing beats and putting together
demo's for the current breed of aspiring artists, he still has an unquenchable thirst to be heard and
recognized for his contribution to the Hip-Hop culture which can only be matched with his relentless
effort to succeed.
