Lifeblood was first born in early 2005, with Jaxon Goddard on bass/vocals, David Zuideveld on lead guitar, Matt Hall on rhythm guitar and Cody Brooks on drums. Their average age was 15. They practiced for over a year to get tight and brutal, starting by honing their chops on playing lightning fast renditions of Metallica and Slayer tunes.
After a while, they set to writing songs, heavily influenced by Scandinavian melodic death metal acts such Dark Tranquillity, Amon Amarth, and American thrash metal bands like Lamb of God, Metallica and Slayer. Combining these influences with a flair for originality and virtuosic shred guitar, Lifeblood established themselves as a talented band.
Come 2006, after playing many underage metal and hardcore shows, the band entered the Next Big Thing. They didn’t make a placing but made a positive impression on the metal and hardcore fans attending the show. Around then they decided to become a 5 piece, and added Anders McLeod on bass, leaving Jaxon to concentrate on vocals. Next was the Breakers battle of the bands, in which the band came equal second and earned the Best New Talent award.
Matt and Lifeblood parted ways in late 2006/early 2007, with an amicable decision to pursue different musical directions. Matt started an old-school thrash metal band. Lifeblood sound ventured into more brutal, heavy territory, and tried out a couple of guitarists for rhythm. They decided on Danny Currie, who has played in other relatively successful Geraldton bands like Incinerator and Cunning Loki.
The band purchased recording computer equipment and borrowed a few mic’s and self produced a 2 song demo, getting attention from foreign bands and metal fans on Myspace. After intense practicing for weeks, they entered the 2007 next big thing in hope of gaining more attention and brutalising the crowd with crushing riffs and blast beats and a renewed sense of fury. Although the band failed to make a placing, the local paper regarded them as the best musicians of the night, and the crowd response was largest for Lifeblood.
In july 2007, the band started self producing an 8 song ep.
THE 8 SONG EP WILL BE OUT NEXT MONTH
