July,20th 1984….. the birth of an up and coming emcee by the name of Antwan Dejuan Clark better know as “Twan D The Studentâ€. Born and raised in Orlando, Florida, “Twan D†grew up with a heartfelt passion for music, listening to the smooth-melodic sounds of artists such as Stevie Wonder, Parliament Funkadelic, Marvin Gaye, and other soulful artist of the 70’s. Being that this was the type of music he was subjected to listening to, due to a strict household, “Twan D†grew to love and respect these artists and the music they made, and later would become influenced to create his own music by bringing soulful sounds to his hip hop style. As “The Student†grew up, he became enamored with several Hip Hop artists such as Tupac, Snoop Doggy Dogg, and the rapid lyrical fire-spitting rap style of Bone Thugs-n-Harmony. This would later be the catalyst for Twan D becoming a rapper. At age 14, with the suggestion of a few childhood friends, “The Student†joined a rap group called “Souls of Furyâ€. After about six months, the group was forced to disband due to a sudden departure of one of its members. After that venture, “Twan D†put a temporary end to his rap dream due to the fact that he felt he wasn’t “good enoughâ€. In the year 2002, with the support of the same childhood friends that he was in the group “Souls of Fury†with, “Twan D†participated in a local radio station freestyle battle. After winning on numerous occasions, and eventually losing the last week of the competition, a new found inspiration brought “Twan D†back to the mic. This time he focused on writing his own music due to the confidence that he gained during the freestyle battles. Now at a young and fresh age of 22, “Twan D the Student†has emerged into one of Orlando, Florida’s phenomenal and prevailing rap artists. With several local performances, and a mixtape on the streets, “Twan D†has managed to capture the eyes, and ears of his city. With his powerful delivery, simplistic but effective word play, versatile style, high energy stage performance, and soulful sound, “Twan D†has managed to come up with his own style of music which he calls “Crunk-Hip Hop-Soulâ€. Taking influential elements from the style of his favorite rapper, Krayzie Bone of the multi-platinum selling group “Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, Twan D has displayed the ability to come up with a “hook-based†song-making niche that will catch your ear the moment the record is played. With his new single “Gottem Going Crazyâ€, “The Student†displays his artistic talents with a catchy hook and southern base beat to match the lyrics behind his “southern Twangâ€. This single guarantees to get clubs jumping and systems bumping across the country, not the mention crazy radio play. With “The Student’s†incredible talent and display of work ethic, Grammy award winnings do not sound too far fetched. Be on the lookout for this young on the rise superstar for years too come.
