About Me

Joshua Aaron Smith

Independent Producer/Engineer
Phone: (219) 263-9404
Hollywood, CA

Preparation:
1.) Have a simple recording of a few songs you want to work with. A newer demo works and it doesn't need to sound amazing. Using this demo I can get a better sense of your talents and musical influences. You can either send me mp3s or snail mail it to me. Keep in mind I try to book a month or two in advance.
2.) We can then schedule a sit down to discuss your vision for the album, figure out your budget, create click tracks for you to practice with, and schedule the studio that we'll work with. Also this is where you'll pay me and together we'll book which studio we'll want to use.
3.) Practice your heart out! Practice outside of practice. Practice with a metronome! (I can't stress this enough!) Don't think that practicing means you aren't a good musician or band! The more you practice, the tighter you'll play. The tighter you play, the quicker we will get done in the studio. The quicker you finish in the studio, the more time we'll have for the truly fun and artist moments that make your album different... plus less time saves you money. Also you'll be less tired and frustrated if we have to record numerous takes (I'm a slave driver when I'm looking for that great take!). After all it is your album and your money, do it the best you can!
4.) Get your instruments setup! Take your instrument to a good local shop to be setup/intonated. This will probably run you around 40-60 bucks but well worth it! Get new heads for your drums because I can't make badly worn heads sound fat or punchy.
5.) Show up with enough rest, a good attitude and ready to roll tape.
