Some people are like Slinkies...not really good for anything,
but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.
My friends, as a general rule, constantly amaze AND amuse me. I want people in my life to inspire me and to be inspired by me. That seems a fair enough trade off. ROLLER DERBY - L.A. DERBY DOLLS
GOOD ADVICE FROM A GREAT FRIEND I am not afraid of being eaten by bears!
I am not afraid of tipping back in my chair.
I am not afraid of crashing my car.
I m not afraid of not knowing where you are.
You cannot scare me Amylu-
And if I am startled it just passes right through.
I am not frightened by snakes and spiders.
I don't need a helmet when I'm a motorcycle rider.
If you were in danger I would come to your aid.
If we were at war I would jump on the grenade.
There's no use living in fear;
can you see what I'm saying, Amylu my dear?
Now, none of this means I am stupid or careless,
Those are quite different from living life fearless.
I love this life for all its beauty and sadness,
We just shouldnt live less because of the madness.
Youve seen the news, havent you?
Turn that shit off before it gets to you, Amylu.
If you study your fear it can be understood,
And youll see that most times it does you no good.
Its a trick of the mind and it can be undone,
So you can savor each moment until your time comes.
Fear wont save you Amylu,
Live from the heart and you will know what to do.
I suppose I could enumerate my sexual interests here in a clever, funny and appealing way to draw attention like so many other people on mycrap, but I'd prefer to attract friends based on more important criteria. "If you do *blank* then I'll follow you anywhere*. BLECCH
Lewis Black is the funniest man alive today. Prove me wrong, go ahead, try...
Astronomy. If you believe that means I care if you're a Cancer or a Virgo, please go away immediately. Now. GO ON, GIT!!
As a rule, outdoorsy crap in general doesn't suck; Tattoos that aren't a Tweety Bird on your ass (why bother?); Writing, performing and listening to music; Surfing the net, playing stupid online games - the more stupid the better
Overall, like me, my interests are widely varied, awesome and probably over your head.
I'd like to meet:
Kind, forthcoming, tolerant, patient people who believe HONESTY is one of life's finest virtues suck the least in my estimation. Liars provide a rad woozy thrill, but I don't make a habit of repeatedly taking rides that make me sick.
So you want to meet me? I don't think you do... For starters, I'm a manipulative psycho hose-beast who drinks too much and hollers at the top of my lungs just to see how far the echo will reverberate. Dissuaded yet? I mean, I want to be clever but I'm just too vapid. Is that the right word? I think the word I meant to use is stoopid. Yeah. Stoopid.
Stephen Hawking and Carl Sagan, just because I likey astronomy. Amy likey smart people.
Music:
Liz Phair, Cake, Green Day, David Byrne, Beck, Weezer, The Sundays, Bad Religion, Sublime, The Murmurs, NOFX, Lagwagon, Sinead, Rufus Wainwright and Ray LaMontagne, too. All Sondheim, no Lloyd-Weber. Charles Mingus, Thelonius Monk, Dinah Washington and on and on.PHAT CAT SWINGER
CHAMPIPPLE
..
Movies:
The Princess Bride, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was good - the classics for me will always be This Is Spinal Tap, Raising Arizona and much of the Coen Bros. stuff. I fall on the "love" side of people's love/hate relationship with Napoleon Dynamite. For the record, Paul Giamatti (Sideways) is the shit! I'll always watch Pulp Fiction when it's on, and a sappy 80's flick called The Boy Who Could Fly (soooo cheesy!) Boondock Saints (sexy sexy saintly badass boys omg), Ghost Dog, The Fisher King, The Adventures of Baron von Munchausen, The Graduate, Edward Scissorhands, Harold & Maude, Heathers, Contact (up until the last 15 mins), Elizabeth, Scarlett Street (way oldie - see it), 2001 etc. (I prefer sci-fi books to sci-fi movies, generally.) Then there's PUNCH DRUNK LOVE and MAGNOLIA, both strikingly original and beautiful. I also love documentaries about pretty much anything, the nerd in me speaking out there I guess.
Television:
FUCK American Idol for sucking me in this season right at the end *blushes pitifully* Love ATHF. Simpsons , 'course.
Books:
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series, I read all four books in the trilogy hehe, , recently read The Princess Bride and reread The Hobbit and Cat's Cradle... sci-fi in general, Asimov, Clarke et al, Harry Potter series, Native Son is intense, particularly for its time, Black Hawk Down was great - the usual stuff people say, I suppose. Oh yeah, Little Women, 'course! I also have a fondness for the Madelaine series.
I don't understand why so many people never pick up a book anymore. DO IT! Your brain may reclaim some of what you've lost to the tube... here's to hoping mine does. Oh, and crossword puzzles RULE. See the documentary of the same name, it's great.
Heroes:
The old cliche, Mom and Dad. Mom because she's survived so much illness with a constant attitude of hope and optimism that's gotten her through 25+ years of cancer, and Dad because he's changed from being such a dictatorial asshole when I was younger to a fun, patient and incredibly likeable person today, proving to me that people CAN change. Plus, they're still together after 45 years of marriage which proves two people can let it work if they're forgiving enough.
