The word "zegota" was used as a code name for a group of Polish Catholics who, in the midst of WWII, saved thousands of lives working as an underground railroad for Jews and other assorted outcasts under the tyranny of Nazi Germany. We understand that the word itself means "unity" in Polish. The volunteers involved with zegota put themselves at great risk by hiding out the persecuted in their homes, feeding them, clothing them, preparing false papers for them, and scraping up whatever money they could spare to aid in the fight for freedom. The zegota group was absolutely beautiful. They gave without thought of reward; they risked everything to fight for the cause of humanity. In a time and a place where decisions are made based not on morality or sanity, but on opportunity costs and selfish daydreams, what zegota did was truly an act of beauty, an act of beauty amidst the horror and absolute terror of the holocaust.
When we started this band, we were wide-eyed with optimism, ready to fucking destroy this world with explosive music and honest expression. The music we make as well as the ideas we share have every intention of making this world, yours and ours, a more beautiful and wonderful place to be. We felt inspired and empowered by zegota, everything about it; so we chose their name to represent what the four of us create together. Now that we are older and hopefully a bit wiser (but more wide-eyed than ever!), we realize that our efforts pale in comparison to the sacrifices zegota made. We are just four fellas who roam the earth making music, learning, loving, living, and creating emotional and artistic expression together. Our music is born out of frustration and anger, of being sick and fucking tired of always falling in line and keeping quiet.
In this world where complacence and obedience are ingrained in us from the very beginning, the soundtrack of defiance is beautiful in and of itself.
