Hair Extension CareWashing:1. DO NOT wash your hair for the first 48 hours after touch-ups and application as some bonds take this long to set. After this, wash hair every two days. If you have a naturally oily scalp, wash hair every other day. Beginning at the ends of the hair, brush out all of the tangles. Work from the bottom towards the crown. Hold the top at your bonds as you brush.2. Hair extensions are most easily shampooed in the shower. Wet hair thoroughly with mildly warm water, place shampoo in the palm of the hands & stroke the entire strand from scalp to ends. Use back and forth motion lightly at scalp to prevent scalp build-up. Never use circular motions as this will cause hair to tangle. Always wash with your head tilted slightly back & not forward.3. Use hands to squeeze excess water from the hair. Place conditioner in palm of hands & stroke downward, on the extended hair only. Do NOT place conditioner at attachment points.4. At this point comb through the hair lightly with your fingers to avoid tangling. Hold the top of the hair as you run your fingers lightly through. Start on the underside of the hair. Your extensions will not come out if you get conditioner on them, but may last longer if you avoid it.5. Rinse thoroughly, and pat hair dry with a towel. Do not rub as this will cause friction & tangles.Styling/At-Home Care:1. Heated dryers & hot weather will not destroy bonds, but please try to avoid direct heat from curling & flat irons.2. Always use a NATURAL BOAR HAIR BRISTLE BRUSH ONLY on your extensions. Boar bristle brushes do not get caught at the attachment point as easily. They also help to naturally distribute oils and prevent itchy build-up on the scalp.3. You must brush your hair at least 2x a day from root to ends to remove all tangles. If you do not, your hair may mat and you may have heavy build-up at the scalp.4. Avoid scenarios where you go from cold to heated conditions repeatedly. This may prolong the life of your extension. Cold makes the hair cuticle contract while heat makes it expand. Too much expanding and contracting can cause the bond to loosen and slide. Always washing and rinsing with mildly warm water will help to prevent this in the bath or shower.5. Sleeping on a satin pillowcase creates less friction and helps to prevent matting and tangling.6. Tie hair back in windy situations to prevent tangles.7. Use ONLY styling/care products recommended for your extensions. Use a shampoo and conditioner recommended by your stylist. These are usually CLARIFYING SHAMPOOS, or if you have bonded wefts, OIL FREE PRODUCTS. This is very important to the life of your extensions. Do NOT use specialty products at all, such as volumizing or smoothing products, they can build-up or cause slippage. Do NOT use products high in alcohol content near the bonds, this can cause many brands of bond to break down. Do NOT use products with a high oil content near the bonds, this can cause both breakdown in some bonds and slippage in others.8. At bedtime wrap your hair or put your hair in a loose braid or a few scrunches so the extensions do not tangle in the night. You may experience more shedding and tangles on the side you sleep on.9. Tie hair back or use a swim cap if you swim. Always wash hair immediately following.In-Salon Maintenance:Most salon services can be performed on new growth only. Chemicals and color should be applied above the attachment point and not touch the attachment point. Try to have all perms, color and chemical services done at least 3 days before your extensions are put in. Wait until after your extension service to have your hair cut. This will make blending and attachment easier. BE AWARE many stylists are not familiar with cutting extensions. Let a stylist know ahead of time that you have extensions and make sure they have experience cutting them.It is imperative that you have your hair checked at the one month mark to see how your extensions are wearing. After this, maintenance appointments should be made once a month for optimal results. Any loose, thin or matted bonds are replaced or repaired. Failure top attend maintenance appointments will forfeit any guarantees on labor. Hair extensions will not last past three months based on the following things:Weight distribution. If the extension is too heavy for the hair to hold, after a certain amount of time, the extension will fall out, slide out or break off.Shedding.Hair naturally sheds. This goes hand-in-hand with weight distribution. Any natural hair that sheds that is attached to extended hair does not fall out of the head, rather it comes out when the extension is removed. Shedding hair while it was in your scalp, was used to hold the extension in. Too much shedding results in not enough hair to hold the weight of the extension.Growth. Most people's hair also grows at a rate of 1/2" per month. At the end of three months, your hair has grown a little over 1 1/2". So when people tell you that system will last for six months or longer, imagine where the attachment point will be in that time.Hair extensions and additions will never be truly permanent no matter what anyone says.
