SAHARA is a benefit that has been put together by a group of like-minded individuals who are anxious to provide their support to the victims of the catastrophic earthquake that crippled the northern areas of Pakistan, Kashmir, and India on October 8, 2005. The aim of SAHARA—which is an Urdu and Hindi word for aid or support—is to raise much needed funds and awareness about this crisis, and to aid the millions of injured and homeless people who are currently enduring a harsh winter without the basic necessities of adequate shelter and clothing...
The media’s lack of coverage about this tragedy, as well as an onslaught of “compassion fatigue” following the equally horrific natural disasters of last year have diverted the American public’s eyes and hearts from the devastation that has befallen the people of this ruined region. SAHARA hopes to invoke the beauty of compassion during a night where good souls gather to hear good music and send the people of Pakistan, Kashmir, and India their blessings and solidarity—for this is not only their tragedy, it is ours, as well.

Kashmir Earthquake Relief (KER) is a USA-based volunteer collective effort to help the victims of the October 8, 2005 earthquake in Kashmir rapidly rebuild their lives and communities.
We are working on the ground in Kashmir to provide emergency relief assistance to thousands of quake victims.  We have partnered with the Ath'rot vounteer relief coalition in Kashmir and together we have organized hundreds of volunteers - including a medical team of more than 65 doctors.
KER is sending ready to deploy Community Shelter Camp Kits that will offer life-saving shelter, water purification, food and sanitation solutions.  Each kit provides for 400 people, is cost-effective, and is geared for the harsh mountain climate in Kashmir. Camp sites are being prepared and Ath'rot volunteers are in place to manage the camps. We are sending 10 camp kits to provide for 4,000 people in the first go.
KER will pursue a three-phase relief and rehabilitation program that includes: building schools, educational infrastructure, and homes in quake-hit areas. We seek to partner with local communities on both sides of the LOC to achieve this goal.
KER is a 100% voluntary effort. Each and every penny we collect goes directly towards procurement and relief/rehabilitation program delivery on ground
