I am Iron Ham!

About Me

I've been at this music thing now for almost twenty years. I started out with only $25 and a dream. As soon as I break even I'm outta here.--------I've had a lot of nice support from a few indie labels, most notably Serendipity Doda, Elephi Pelephi, and Runt Records. -----------I used to be in a band called Stringbean. We weren't aware of the famous country music star of the same name when we started. That lasted about five years and we got to release a couple of singles and record for a few compilations. We hung it up just in time. It was still fun.-----------Now here I am continuing as Ham Steak. These days I also sculpt, draw, take pictures, write and make stuff. I still play live when asked. I'm still writing new songs. And I really like to cook, especially pizza.-----------Here are some reviews of past releases:-----------The punchline of "The Happy Man Comes to Town with a Story" will make you want to sock yourself in eye. Highly recommended! -Alternative Press-----------It's like Lo-Fi Casiotone swankiness. Music to mix bad cocktails to, and I dig it. Send them your swizzle sticks. -NET Magazine-----------Hakkila's tapes are the perfect example of what's so great about underground rock. Delectable bites of poorly-recorded pop masterpieces that follow you around like beer-soaked shadows for weeks on end. -spec magazine-----------Mom always said, "There's nothing like hamsteak to brighten your day," and how right she was. In this case, however, we're not talking about that delightful chewy pink slab with the bone in the middle, we're talking about Ham Steak, the lo-fi alter-ego of George Hakkila. The name resonates richly of rock and roll heritage: one man, an acoustic guitar, a bad drum machine, and a four track. I can't help it. I love Ham Steak. -Northeast Performer-----------(Ham Steak's) deep-toned lead vocals recall Nick Cave, though Mr. Steak has the added bonus of a sense of humor. -Illinois Entertainer----------------Thanks for dropping by. Oopah!
