Discovered at a talent search by composer/producer Maurice Starr (who had engineered the success of another teenage band, New Edition) New Kids On The Block were a perfect find. A squeaky-clean group of white boys with funk, New Kids were as hip as the Jackson Five and as wholesome as the Osmond Brothers. And, while fans around the world thrilled to the New Kids R&B-flavored, funky, sexy street sound, they became more than a musical success, they became a pop phenomenon.
In 1989 both the Pop and R&B charts were absolutely dominated by the young group from Boston, Massachusetts. They topped Forbes magazine's list of highest-paid American entertainers (over Michael Jackson and Madonna) - scored ..1 positioning for both albums and singles in Billboard for the year and became the first group in 5 years to have two songs in the top 10 simultaneously.
