Music, cities, people, human rights, linguistics, going places, and this reference atlas I bought in London the other day, it's just... like... the most useful thing I've ever bought, I think.
First and foremost my friends more often.
- Yea, and someone with whom I can practice Russian. I can do the dishes or whatever, and this someone can teach me all the noun case stuff.
Tom Waits, Bob Dylan, Pixies, Royal Plastic, Me are the world, Regina Spektor, Lucinda Williams, Martha Wainwright, Sonic Youth, Motorpsycho, Patti Smith, The Clash, Built to spill, Pavement, The Velvet Underground, Fischerspooner, Ladytron, Stereolab, Run DMC, De La Soul, Son of Light, Jan Johansson, Charlie Parker, Herbie Hancock and so on and so forth.
Withnail and I, Dirty dancing, Fucking Åmål, Spirited away and Coline Serreau's Chaos will go with me to the desert island. Well, them, and a TV and a DVD player, I guess. And anything featuring Cate Blanchett, Jeremy Irons or Helge Jordal, as long as I can fit it in my boat.
...corrupts your mind and soul.
Or, not really, I guess, but ours doesn't work anyway... if it did, however, I'd like to have the channel with historical programs about the French revolution and such. And, of course, Ab Fab and Black Books.
Right now I'm reading a book that is so f*cking great that I think I'm gonna have to tell everyone about it in person. And underline phrases. And make people read it. At least those who understand Swedish.
I also would have to mention "The Master and Margarita" by Michail Bulgakov, James Young's utterly wonderful "Nico - songs they never play on the radio", and, of course, my dictionary of Russian slang and colloquial expressions.
Anna Politkovskaja, Tom Waits and Tove Jansson.
