Lapis Lazuli

About Me

Lapis Lazuli is the latest incarnation of the downtown guitar punisher Kurt Wolf, an alumnus of rude, iconoclastic outfits like Pussy Galore, Boss Hog and Foetus Inc. Best known for music that turns a deaf ear on finesse, Wolf is now experimenting with an atmospheric, noirish sound. New Yorker Dec 04

Sounds Like: Lapis Lazuli @ Joe's Pub NYC 12/12/04 Live Reveiw,,, Former Pussy Galore axeman Kurt Wolf showed off his newest musical project, Lapis Lazuli at New York’s venerable Joe’s Pub. The sounds were an undulating, abrasive, and introspective mix of edgy, melodic processed guitar work backed by subtle yet effective beat-driven background loops. Overhead, hypnotic visuals accompanied the soundscapes. Perhaps if Ennio Morricone made a Raga pilgrimage to India alongside the Stooges in the early- seventies, this is what they would have recorded for some lost cinematic masterpiece. Peter Kenis
