About Me

I love language, music, life and love. My family is the most important thing in the world to me. I am very ambitious and I like to work hard. I feel really lucky to have a safe, comfortable life and to be in control of where I'm headed. I don't watch much television, I'd rather be talking to someone or working on a project. I listen to NPR a lot but lately I'm disappointed that they play less educational programming than they used to; I loved learning about strange never-before-heard-of endangered salamanders from Tanzania...
I'm also a linguist. Being a linguist doesn't mean that I know how to speak a bunch of different languages, it means that I'm trained in the scientific analysis of language and I view language as a logic based, evolving system. In consequence, it means that I know wierd facts like: languages that have prepositions instead of postpositions are likely to place adverbs before verbs as opposed to after verbs. It also means that I have a thing for perfect grammar and spelling but don't mind when others make mistakes. Quite nerdy, isn't it?
Lastly, I'm an amateur musician. I used to play drums in rock bands, but now I just play guitar and sing (pretty poorly) for friends and family. It makes me happy. Especially singing kid's songs for my niephews :)

My first rant.... I can't help it.

So, I look at this picture of the border, with a measley little aluminum wall attempting to disconnect the United States from Mexico (as if that's possible), and it feels like the wall is splitting my...
