Andy Scisco independently produced and recorded his album The Sky Between Us in London. Mixing solo pieces almost whispered into the microphone and songs backed by a full band, at once exuberant and profoundly lonesome, Andy’s work is anchored by his tempered guitar and stories built on intimate and vibrant images. Much like himself, his characters are frequently outsiders looking in at worlds which they are not entirely part of. Drawing on folk, pop, and rock, he plays with a subtle and understated style that comes only with confidence. It is this exceptional quality which distinguishes him, allowing him to achieve the nearly impossible balance between sentimentality and honesty, between nostalgia and truth. Partly mirrored by the opening lines of his track You and I Begin, “Standing in front of your door with my heart in my hands. . . I’ve come through the dark with a point I have to confess,†this is a candid and economical songwriter with a distinctly unusual background.
Born in Kinshasa, Zaire to a Swedish mother and an Italian father, Andy grew up in a family that moved around the world. By the time he started playing guitar at the age of twelve, he spoke English, Italian, Swedish and French and had lived in six countries on three continents.
Living in Paris and playing in bars and clubs with various bands throughout his twenties, he gained real exposure when French multi-platinum-selling artist, Gérald de Palmas, invited him to open his 2005 tour. With over 60 European dates, this opportunity enabled Andy to sell 8 000 units of his EP The Imaginary Man while establishing a fan base in France and it’s neighboring countries.
While France has truly opened its arms to him since 2005-2006, 2007 brought Andy to the US, Canada, and Scandinavia. Hosted by the Sundance Film Festival in January, he played several North American shows in March, including dates at the Viper Room in Los Angeles and the Canadian Music Week, in Toronto. Faithful to his genuinely multinational identity he has since also been working in Norway, where a newly found creative pool and a vibrant independent music scene have offered him both recording and performance opportunities. It is with great pleasure that we invite you to share in this most uncommon musical journey.
