Sorensen & Mechlowicz

Throw Everything Away

About Me

Soren Sorensen met Brian Mechlowicz in 1996 while at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. Sorensen studied Film Scoring while Mechlowicz majored in Music Business. Thanks to mutual friends, the two played what they affectionately refer to as “the worst gig ever,” a set of covers for a Quincy, Massachusetts high school prom substance-free after-party. Their first public performance as a duo came that same year in New York City at a club neither remembers the name of. Drunk and uninvited, the two took the stage to pay homage to Hall and Oates with a moving rendition of “Sara Smile.”
After college, Sorensen stayed in Boston to pursue a career in film, while Mechlowicz returned to New York to work in the music business. A few years later Sorensen finally rejoined Mechlowicz in New York City and the duo began writing songs and playing gigs at various clubs. In 2005, Sorensen & Mechlowicz decided to record some tracks in Brooklyn and put out a few EP’s - the first of which was completed in early 2006, and will be available at their upcoming shows. Their music has been described as “Ryan Adams meets Bryan Adams” and “Indie-Rock/Easy-Listening”, but their songs definitely reveal their influences better than a phrase or two; effortlessly mixing a steady diet of classic Brit Pop such as Oasis, Blur, Supergrass, and Travis with an obsessive love (without the slightest hint of sarcasm) for Michael McDonald, Phil Collins, George Michael, and Air Supply.
