You Can Twist My Words, But My Will Still Exist...

About Me

Introducing DEO SOUL… "YOU KNOW ME WITHOUT EVEN KNOWING YOU KNOW ME"Melodic melodies, legendary lyrics and vivid vocals all describe the unbelievable sound of pure soul that is exemplified in the music of the southern breed Singer/Songwriter/Arranger known simply as Deo Soul…Born in the small town of Rockingham, North Carolina where music was used as an outlet to the real world and an escape from the negative surroundings. At age 4, Deo began expressing a serious nature for exploring his gift of song by mimicking the likes of early childhood influences. As tradition would have it, vocal training came in the form of singing in the church choir along with participating in chorus once he entered into grade school. This would provide the fundamentals necessary to develop his angelic soulfulness. Exposure to many diverse genres under the umbrella of soul brought about a likeness for music that embodies feeling. From the movement of the Gospel to the everyday message in R&B, from the transitions of Jazz to the rhythm and raw power of Rock, soul music proved the importance of creating. This would be the key that opened the gift of songwriting which became evident around the age of 15, proving to be the perfect combination needed to accompany his rare style of vocals.Briefly after high school, a move to New York City would provide the unexpected opportunity of getting involved in the fast paced industry of dog eat dog. With a love of music, but a limited interested in artistry, the NYC lifestyle played the biggest role in Deo becoming acquainted with those who would have a part in jump starting his musically career. Being overheard singing, “Happy Birthday” by an assistant, whom at the time worked for one of head A&R reps for Def Jam, gave Deo the link to other writers and producers throughout the city. Not even a year had passed before Deo, then called by the nickname Que, would find himself writing as well as performing background vocals for many artist including his first accreditted work for Arista recording duo Koffee Brown’s first single, “After Party”. Deo’s distinctive vocal ability and incredible writing style allowed him to work with artist such as NEXT, Ideal, Profyle, Kevon Edmonds, Dawn Robinson and Michael Jackson as well as heavyweight producers "Allstar", Brian Michael Cox, Fanatic, Kay Gee, Epitome and Teddy Riley. After working with a wide variety of musical greats, a well deserved hiatus and relocation back to the Carolinas sparked the interest in becoming a recording artist. Offers to sing live on stage with the likes of hometown greats Beverly Crowder, Calvin Richardson and Horace Brown encouraged this unknown veteran vocalist to record his highly anticipated solo project that’s well overdue. Staying true to the roots of soul with a combination of timeless music and angelic vocals, the sound of Deo Soul should be just what’s needed to rescue music from it’s current State of Emergency.
