Born in the Bronx, Kelly who is the only boy had to fight everyday to get his respect in a time where you had to get down or lay down. His quiet and calm demeanor could fool you, but when you ask people about him they say he was always into something. Reminiscent of his surroundings of the Bronx River Projects, it is no wonder that he was a child of Hip Hop. After all, that is where it all began with Africa Bambatta and the Zulu Nation. At a very young age partying with the original Violators and Kool D.J. Red Alert he got to see hip hop hit the club and music scene in its beginning stages. His father being an actor and director, Kelly was able to get an early jump on the discipline that is required in this business of entertainment. His father and legendary casting director Sylvia Faye cast him in “The Last Dragon”, “The Cotton Club” and a few episodes of the “Equalizer”.Moving full speed ahead, he got his first real taste of the business in the early as an intern at Columbia Records. During this stint he took full advantage while learning the best from the best. Although interning was his way into the corporate structure of the entertainment business, Kelly still had his ear to the streets and helped to develop Mase and was instrumental in getting him his first deal with Bad Boy Entertainment. On the marketing, retail and promotion side of the entertainment business he has worked with artists such as New Edition, Jodeci, Capone N Noreaga, Mariah Carey, The Fugees, Maxwell, Alicia Keys, Angie Stone, Mario, Monica, Fantasia, Maroon 5 and a sleuth of others.He got his first taste of writing and picking beats while helping out Mase with songs like “Can’t Hold Me Down”, “Mo Money, Mo Problems” and The Notorious B.I.G.’s “Victory”. His first record he ever produced was “Young Casanovas” for the ‘How to Be a Player’ soundtrack. Kelly never got any credit on any of those songs because at the time he just wanted Mase to be hot. Biggie used to tell him that he had “IT” and he should write and record his own music, but at the time Kelly didn’t see what B.I.G. saw in him. Moving ahead he wrote some songs for Olivia before she got to G-Unit and on one of them she asked him to rhyme on the song also, after getting praise, he decided to take on the challenge. He’s had some hate for wanting to pursue his rap career, some people have said that he will fail, but the encouragement from people like Angie Stone, Kool DJ Red Alert, Mario and others is what keeps him going.
