SupremeKourt......The Return of Hip Hop

About Me

Formed in the early ‘90s in south Los Angeles, Supreme Kourt began with producer/rapper Ronic, rapper T. Brooks a.k.a. Rome, and rapper S. Ashley a.k.a. Mr. Stiff. Supreme Kourt then built an enviable reputation in hip hop as the protegees and younger brothers of “Uncle Jam’s Army”, a Los Angeles production crew which launched such west coast rap pioneers as, Ice T, Egyptian Lover, LA Dream Team, DJ Bobcat, DJ Pooh, Rodney O and Joe Cooley. As Supreme Kourt’s members temporarily disbanded to attend college Ronic continued to improve his skills as a producer by collaborating with several now famous producers that he encountered during the groups hiatus. Says producer/rapper Ronic: “ I learned a valuable lessons back then after I started to hear beats on the radio I produced that where stolen, yet it was somewhat flattering I was mostly hurt by it. But in the long run it made me realize, I can make it in this business”!! The group started to work on their 1st album the summer of ‘98 in the San Fernando valley. Using graduate school money Ronic built “Kourthouse Recording Studios”(the groups own 24 track digital recording studio), which aided the crew in creating the hottest hip hop music and stage show ever seen in the Hollywood Club circuit by an unsigned group. After several months in the studio, and almost ready to start booking shows tradigy struck in Feb. 1999 when the youngest of the group nephew to Ronic and cousin to Rome, S. Ashley committed suicide. Says producer/rapper Ronic: “ When Stiff died that was one of the darkest years of my life, physically, mentally, as well as musically. But it lit a fire inside us, it was almost like the entire crew was on speed”. By Aug. 1999 Supreme Kourt was in full swing mode performing show after show while building a rep in Hollywood too straight rock any stage, “The Viper Room opening for Papa Roach, The Whiskey opening for SX-10 and Everlast, The Troubadour with Slum Village, The Roxy with Hot Karl, The Key Club opening for Tribe Called Quest, and Club Galaxy (Anaheim) opening for The 2Live Crew”. At all times holding their own on stage and most times out performing the acts they opened for. Says B-Real of Cypress Hill: “Shit, when they opened for us at the “Hard Rock Casino (Las Vegas)” they rocked the house so straight up hip hop we had to change our set, because we had most of our live shit on stage ready to do you know, but we decided to do an old set because they had the crowd set-up perfectly for it”. Even when it came down to opening for Redman (which stage show is known to be one of the dopest in hip hop) at The Atrium in Atlanta, Ga.. Supreme Kourt rocked the dirty south too! I’m sure the Kourt still has fans there waiting for their first album to drop. Once word of mouth started to travel with the help of XL’s radio show (Channel Zero) at Power106.FM (a local radio station in LA), and some famous peers of the crew the music industry started to take notice. But once again tradigy struck when Pete Slate a.k.a. XL was killed in a head-on-car collision on July 4th 2003 the day Barry White died. But Ronic, remembering a promise he made after Stiff’s death (which inspired the song “Miss Me”) refused to give up....... The groups motto now, “no curses, just music”. Defined by their organic sound and style Supreme Kourt is the return of real hip hop music.
