About Me

Hello I am Winston. I have become unhealthily addicted to taking photos. I keep my favourite ones here (click below):
One day I'm hoping by magic I'll get really good at it and some nice man or woman will say to me, oooo nice photos, want to work for my very glossy and exciting mag? And then I can stop being a pscyhologist, which is a cool job I know but you have to get up in the morning and all sorts, and wander about here, there and everywhere, all over the world, taking photos and generally having a nice time. Not places of war though because I am a wimp when it comes to violence. I once hit a boy called Michael Drawbridge in the face when I was at primary school after a rather competive game of british bulldog. It made me feel big and clever but the guilt soon came. Maybe Michael did tag me afterall and I just didn't feel it for the adrenaline rush of being the last person to get to the other side without being tagged?? I will never know. I have since the age of 17 decided to punish myself for such sinful behaviour by being a vegan.
Other very good back-up plans to psychology include creating an amazing band and touring the world, playing to thousands of adoring fans. Clearly this is an appealing option too and, again, does not involve going to war-torn places. Result. Although this is a plan that has been on the backburner for 10 years or more, one day it may just come true, who knows. Music keeps me sane*. I love to listen to it. Especially live. I love to create it and get lost in my own world of fat jangerly chords. And I LOVE to dance to it. Salsa is very fun. However the best sort of dancing is that which has no rules. I love dancing to something funky and I also love to mosh! Despite being a very gentle person I love aggressive music. Having said that Sigur Ros seems to keep finding its way back to my cd player on a regular basis. There was something appealing about that whale song relaxation type stuff back in the 90s wasn’t there?! Thank god someone managed to harness that ethereal sound and create soundscapes so beautiful all your worries just melt away as you escape into a world of unadulterated…ermmm yeah anyway, back-up plan numero tres is the actual plan of the moment that is to practice when I qualify as a Clinical Psychologist and work with children. Being in a profession in which you can help people is amazing. I need to keep reminding myself of that! Please help me remember - my memory is shocking.
*Friends also keep me sane. Thank you! I would love to put something very cheesy in here but I will resist for fear of deep embarrassment. Oh and meditation and dhamma seems to be helping a fair bit at the mo. Those buddha folk are clever ya know…Check out the old DL below. Woop! If I listened to him more I’d realise all these plans are pointless. Love is all you need. Sorry, the cheese came, it was only a matter of time…
Here are some random photos of me, my friends, my family and some of the beautiful places I have been fortunate enough to visit:

Books:

I have a love-hate relationship with reading. Having been made to read so much stuff for courses I have developed an annoying fear of reading. If there is no one in my bed to entertain me I tend to mess around on my guitar before going to sleep rather than read. Having said that, I REALLY want to read more. Paulo Coelho is amazing. I'd love to read more of his books. + some more stuff on buddhism would be good, and some stuff to remind me why I'm a vegan could be useful when put on the spot as I often am. Theres always a million psychology books that I'd love to digest without turning a page. I loved the Da Vinci code. Must read more Steinbeck and Orwell too...oh the list goes on!

Heroes:

The Dalai Lama. I like him lots.
I found this quote of his posted on a friend's page recently. I love it...

"There is no need for temples, no need for complicated philosophies. My brain and my heart are my temples; my philosophy is kindness"

We can all learn a lot from this man. Exiled from his own country, his followers imprisoned and tortured for "crimes" such as owning a picture of him and yet he feels no anger. Anger is not necessary to campaign for justice. A heart of pure love, compassion and mindful wisdom. You can't help but be amazed by this man no matter what your religious beliefs are...

Random map tracking thingy just for fun...It does seem to vaguely work, but thinks that people in York actually reside in the Yorkshire Dales...:

I've been feeling sorry for my sad state of affairs, neglected and almost forgotten myspace page recently.  Facebook is taking over the world.  Or my world at least.  How sad....  ...
