Movies:
I like anything that makes you think. Crime dramas, mysteries, etc... If they have religious or historical references, even better. I like to watch movies that can be believable but with the "one twist" that reminds you why you work a boring 9 to 5 job and aren't a multi-millionaire screenwriter. And, being the geek that I am, I also love sci-fi (i.e., Star Wars) and horror movies. The lower the budget the better.
Television:
History Channel, Discovery Channel and CNN.
Books:
Freakonomics, Dante's Inferno, Idiot's Guide to Playing Guitar and Everything You Need to Know About Microsoft Office 2007 are just the current titles.
Heroes:
Daniel Johns, Ben Gilles and Chris Joannou from Silverchair are my greatest heroes. If I had a single molecule of their talent, I would be grateful. Personally, I don't know an awful lot about the guys but, I know a good thing when I hear it. I mean, I know what most Silverchair fans know: Daniel has had a serious struggle with anorexia and beat it. Then he was able to express this struggle in a song for everyone to see. For everyone to see that he is human and that even celebrities have problems that they, too, need help with. I admire him because of his appreciation of the environment and animals that we share this earth with. He is most definately NOT afraid of change or what people will think because he chooses to change. His (their - Silverchair) real fans will love them no matter what. No fair-weather fans!! Silverchair is the most under-appreciated band in the world. Their choice to go independant to have full creative control and to make something THEY want just speaks volumes of their love of what they do. I will always be a fan and will always anticipate their next project. They seem very grounded and very personable and I hope I have a chance someday to just shake their hands and let them know the influence they have had on me and they have made a positive change in my life. Thank you.
