Some would say The Zero Four came from outer space to funk you up, but they’d be lying. Some would say it happened because of a groovin’ radioactive spider. But those who know the truth would tell you that it was simply because the rock cosmos were aligned just right.
The Zero Four were birthed in the spring of 2000, bringing new life to a solo project spearheaded by singer Jared Salvatore. Adding guitar man Jamie Balmer from the start because of his exceptional songwriting abilities, and selecting brothers Dan and Chris Cocuzzo because of their diverse stylistic talents and well-honed rhythmic tightness, The Zero Four unwittingly drew together into a superpower that could push out an infectious feeling of energy, verve and rhythm. When Chris departed from the group in the spring of 2004, zerofour joined forces with drummer Steve Shannon, who has brought a new raw, rock energy to the group.
Ranging everywhere from piano-driven jazz-rock to louder, more progressive guitar-oriented laments, the songs showcase the band’s determination to go anywhere possible in order to make every song just right. The desire to speak to every listener drives the band to target the roots of human emotion and bring an incredible energy to a detailed lyrical picture. The pulse behind this energy sits in Dan Cocuzzo, a magician on the bass guitar, and Steve Shannon, who plays with a calculated ebb and flow that is specifically tailored to the emotion of the songs.
Truly jacks-of-all-trades, The Zero Four have more tricks up their sleeves than skeletons in their closets, and that's saying a lot. They shift their weight between rock, pop, progressive, and acoustic music, showcasing unique harmony, soaring melodies, and a tight groove backbone. With their varied confluence of individual influences and musical backgrounds, the members of The Zero Four cannot seem to agree on what style of music they actually play – except, of course, for their wholehearted agreement that it sure does rock, whatever it is.
