LA-based Tripfolk is the brainchild of singer/songwriter Benjamin Weintraub. Originating in acoustic music and deeply personal songwriting, the band takes themselves on a trip that does not simply get psychedelic; it jams, grooves, gets funky, gets heavy, gets scary and gets folk again. The sound of this band isn't some odd hybrid of styles, but rather a journey through them.
Weintraub released a solo album entitled "Stop Following Me" (2008, Last Bus Records) and put Tripfolk together to bring it's eclectic sound to the stage. He recruited former band members David Harari (Lead Guitar) and Jesse Austin (Drums). The three had been members of the experimental jam/funk/electronica band Slips Into Space (which placed 3rd in LA’s Extravaganza Battle of the Bands in 2007). They teamed up with twin brothers who would change everything from their sound to their entire outlook on music. Dylan Cronin (Bass,Mandolin, Cello) and his brother Tor Cronin(Flute, Guitar) joined in March of 2008. They brought the weary Slips Into Space fragments back to something that exactly fits what Weintraub set out to do when he recorded "Stop Following Me". Tripfolk has already been busy in 2008 playing a standing room only show at Molly Malone’s before heading to Austin to play two shows at SXSW. This spring the band will be playing at a number of venues around Los Angeles including the Key Club, Molly Malone’s and 14 Below as they also plan to release their first album, “Tragedy Plus Time.â€
Simply put, Tripfolk is a dream come true for all of its members. It combines Weintraub’s love of songwriting and musical exploration with a heavy emphasis on intense performance by the entire band.
