About Me

NY-Metro Area born and raised. Mid-West good looks. North-East sensibility. South-west indifference. Laid back Delta attitude. North-West rationality. West-Coast idealism. New Jersey ex-pat. Citizen of the World. And a little about what I do...

My Interests

Travel. Good Food. Good Beer. Hiking. Pointless & Directionless Road Trips. Cooking (especially for others).

I'd like to meet:

Woody Guthrie once wrote, "Sometimes the most lost and wasted attract the most balanced and sane." I just haven't figured out which side I'm on yet.

Music:

Too much to say, I love it all. I do tend toward the folk movement, Delta style, and old blues influence quite a bit, Oh... and classic Jazz. Specifcally, though: Bob Dylan, John Prine, Lucinda Williams, Mary Gauthier, Leonard Cohen, Wilco, Whiskeytown, VU, (old) Springsteen, Grateful Dead, Allman Bros., NRPS, Casey Chambers, Bright Eyes, White Stripes, Pixie, Ani DiFranco, Joni Michell, Miles, Coltrane, Monk, Beethoven (4 & 9), Tom Russell.

Movies:

Clint Eastwood westerns; James Bond films; old war movies; "Casablanca'"; "Legends of the Fall"; "Life is Beautiful"; "Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid"; Ingmar Bergman films; Vincent Gallo films; pretty much anything featuring Eric Stolz; and the Disney Corporation is my personal cinematic whipping boy, those bowdlerizing puritans.

Television:

The History Channel and animated sitcoms.

Books:

Too many to name. History in general, but Love the Beats: Kerouac, Ginsberg, Corso, Ferlinghetti, etc. I'm a huge Kurt Vonnegut fan. Ayn Rand. Jose Saramago. Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Hunter Thompson. Ray Carver. John Gardner. Stienbeck. And most Tom Robbins.

Heroes:

Col. Joshua L. Chamberlain, C.O., 20th Maine Regiment

I Sing the Body Plastic...

OK, I'm labeling this as "Art & Photography" because there isn't a "Science & Medical" option, but it involves a museum exhibit, so "Art" should suffice. So, after work today I took a stroll d...

Good, Old Fashioned Niceness

I gotta tell ya, I honestly thought good, old-timey niceties were long dead, but apparently they simply went into the witness protection program and got relocated outside of the greater NY area. As a ...

A Quest for Man Pants

So, I have been looking (half heartedly) for a "new" pair of blue jeans for the past two months. This may sound a bit odd, and may have some of you thinking "My lord, what kind of hideous build does t...
