What Should You Major In?
I would say my favorite is still Dave Matthews. I really like a local band called The Brillant Inventions. When I was at Virginia Tech I was like Pat McGee, but since he has been signed to a record deal his sound has changed. Is anybody with me about this? I would or I have paid to see Bruce Springsteen, Aerosmith, Beastie Boys, Mettalica, and Third Eye Blind. I like a lot of 70's rock. I enjoy going to a small bar and listening to local talent cover 70's rock and mix in some of their own stuff. My favorite person who did that in Blacksburg was Matt Hatfield. I like new stuff too, like Keith Urban, Kelly Clarkson, or Cold Play. I also like some Japanese pop music, but I only know the group and the songs that were popular when I was living in Japan.
It is really rare that I feel a movie lives up to its hype. So I find that I like movies that were not advertised very much, but this also makes them hard for me to remember several months or years after I have seen them. One movie I saw recently that I liked was Notebook. One of my all time favorites is Back to the Future. Now that Star Wars has 6 movies, Back to the Future might be the best Trilogy of all time. A Few Good Men was memorable. In general I have liked Tom Cruise movies, Top Gun, Cocktail, Last Samurai, Vanilla Sky, The Firm, Rain Man, etc. I also remember really liking Lengends of the Fall.
I tend to watch a lot of sports and news. I like the Daily Show, at least the first 15 mins, usually his interviews are not that interesting. I liked Law and Order SVU, but I have seen most of the episodes that are in rerun and I can't seem to tune in for the new episodes. I really need Tivo or something similar. Desparate House Wives is kind of interest, at least Eva Longeria is smoking, but it is becoming more and more like a soap opera. Grey's Anatomy is reasonably interesting, the story between Grey and Dr. McDreamy is getting old, but I am still cheering for Georggie. Nothing beats college football or the NCAA tournament.
I tend to read books about economics or recent history. I just read "Japan's Big Bang: The Deregulation and Revitalization of the Japanese Economy". Currently I am reading a Japanese comic book trageted at Elementary school children. It is a comic about the history of Japan and the volume I am reading is about when the American Black Ship arrived. I am reading it as much to practice Japanese as I am for the historical content.
