THE STORY OF CALLOUS
Many moons ago, within the walls of University Christian High School in Jacksonville, Fl, the meeting of Michael Wood Jr. and Matt Maple (Spyke) in Mr. Oliff's 1st period World History class, would become the incarnation of "Callous." The two shared very similar personalities, and a friendship was formed almost immediately. After realizing they both shared a strong passion for music, they formed a garage band at Matt's house in 01-02. This would only leave a appetizing taste in both their mouths to take their music to the next level. This move led to the beginning of the band "Downcast."The band Downcast played around Jacksonville clubs throughout 2004. In mid-late 2004, Downcast would suffer a couple member changes, as well as their name. While the band remains nameless and off the scene, Michael suggests bringing in a good friend of his to play bass. This is where Rob Sweat enters the equation. Next on the agenda was a new band name. After several days of flopping back and forth between names, the band decided on "Callous." Almost immediately following their name change, the band would begin writing what is now known as "The Assay" in early 2005.
While writing the debut album "The Assay" Callous began their assault on the Jacksonville Music Scene with their debut show on March 24th @ Thee Imperial. As the band completes the recording of "The Assay" with numerous shows under their belt and a growing local fan base, the band would experience yet another speed bump from hell. Out of the hands and control of the band and himself, original guitarist Chris Warford (Izzy) would have to leave the band permanently.
This led to the band auditioning several guitarists, none of which could replace Izzy. With the band refusing to take a break from shows, they needed someone good, and someone immediately! After having to release their debut album without their original guitarist, and left only with discouraging results from auditions, the band's morale was low.
While looking at musician ads online, Michael came across the posting of a young man by the name of Ross Canger. The two spoke and share musical opinions and influences with each other,. Then agreed it would be a great idea to jam. Because of his talent and willingness to learn, Ross was able to catch onto things very quickly and precise. It seems patience really is virtue.
Callous released their debut album on Dec. 10th, 2005. They have played shows all over Jacksonville, and reaching audiences around Florida, Louisiana, and Georgia. The band is determined to reach as many people with their music and live shows as humanly possible. Callous will be touring throughout Florida, and up the east coast this summer.
The band was pulled together by fate, and fate alone. The members of Callous are glued together by focus, and dedication to what is real. The music. Which is why their drive and passion has led them to become one the premier unsigned artists coming out of Florida today! As long as there is music, there is Callous.
~"A Heartfelt Modern Rock band who Surpases expectations of that of a local band, and goes far beyond that of their popular big-named Peers"
