Built to Spill, TV on the Radio, Afghan Whigs, Beatles, David Bowie, Nina Simone, Antonio Carlos Jobim (and the Gilbertos), Iggy Pop, bauhaus, Kate Bush, Enon, Magnetic Fields, The Feelings, Interpol, Mudhoney, Alice Donut, Elton John (you know, before the Lion King), Lou Reed, White Stripes, IQU, Billy Joel (you know, before Christie Brinkley), Oasis, Rustin Mire, Fleetwood Mac, Steely Dan, Caustic Resin, Burt Bacharach. This list is inexhaustive; it simply includes music I have obsessed over at different points. Four bands that I'm supposed to like and just can't do it: Stereolab, AC/DC, Radiohead, Guns 'n Roses. And Stephen Sondheim makes me cry every time I listen to his music.
An Angel at my Table, Vanya on 42nd Street, Les Parapluis de Cherbourg, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Grey Gardens, Hannah and her Sisters, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. I love Mike Nichols and Ang Lee something fierce.
Flight of the Conchords, Project Runway, 30 Rock
Currently: bios of Leonard Cohen and Jimmy Carter (still) and baby food cookbooks. Petit Appetit is my fave right now. I also like Atonement (Ian McEwan), everything by Lynda Barry, The Master and Margarita (Gogol) and maybe three others. Maybe.
Lynda Barry (and omg - she is coming to Portland next year to do do a writing workshop and I can't wait to go and drool all over her), Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Phoebe Martina
