RAGGA was one of the first artist out of HAWAII to intergrade ROOTS REGGAE with HIP HOP. LIVE instruments vs. new TECHNOLOGY. SINGING and RAPPING. Ahead of his time, CHIEF also introduced DANCEHALL RAGGA MUZIK to the island music scene back in '89 with HO'AIKANE. A fresh sound in the islands that's spreading like WILD FIRE! Despite CONTROVERSY,along with the growing popularity of JAWAIIAN MUZIK-Jamaican music played Hawaiian style. CHIEF always had vizion- INNOVATING the GAME. CHIEF's VERSITILITY & ORIGINALITY makes him THE BEST at what he does. A soulful singer/song writer/musician that FIRES RAPS from a BAZOOKA! From 1983 with BEAT STREET in theaters and HIP HOP on the rise, CHIEF and his rap affiliates-ILLCO: SMOKINDA', UNCONCIOUS, TZARCAZM, and Xtra MAN would turn out school functions, beach bashes, back yard jams, house parties, concerts, and FREESTYLE BATTLES. Alongside BUTCH HELEMANO ( The God Father of Hawaiian reggae), The Electrifying KAPENA, WILLIE K., MANAO COMPANY, BRADDA WALTAH 'AIPOLANI, NATURAL VIBRATIONS, THC, B.E.T., SUDDEN RUSH, and Maui based REGGAE AMBASSADOR MARTY DREAD, HO'AIKANE was known for BRINGING DA HOUSE DOWN! Performing a string of hit songs from: KAILUA-KONA, DOWN THE BUSY STREET, ALL NIGHT, & ISLAND REGGAE-featuring the HAWAIIAN SLACK KEY STYLINGS of NOLAN HAO, were few of many songs sung by the bands lead vocalists HOKU TOLENTINO & WALTER "ACE" TAVARES , plus CHIEF RAGGA's hit classic SLOWLY BUT SURELY... which still gets MAJOR RADIO AIRPLAY to this day. HO'AIKANE set a new standard. ISLAND IRIE, a HO'AIKANE classic, sold over 150,000 units in Hawaii alone, sparking a fire burning deep within the rythm and roots of the islands today. ISLAND IRIE earned 6 nominations at the prestigous NA HOKU HANO HANO awards ceremony including ARTIST of THE YEAR.
