I am here for Friends

About Me

Personal
I'm the not so typical kid who did a typical thing and ran away to San Francisco with a hope for a better life. I'm not so sure it worked! Ha. Someone once told me that I'm impetuous. Someone else once told me that, since I’m a Libra, I refuse to make decisions, yet when I do make them, they’ll be, well, impetuous! Now that I’m here, though, I might as well make the best of it. Somehow, that has turned into me working all the time. Oh, well! At least I have the beach!
The easiest thing to say about me is that I'm seriously a good person, by anyone's standards. I don't know any other way to describe it other than I really care about other people. My heart will break effortlessly for others before it does for myself. I guess that's a convoluted way of saying that I'm compassionate beneath it all. I like to surround myself with people of similar feelings. It amazes me how often we go through life without fully realizing the impact we truly have on other people until damage is already done. I am a firm believer in making the world what we want for it to be; we have to take an active role in the formation of a better tomorrow, even if it's one life at a time, even if it's trite to say. It can start with a smile. It's amazing how far a simple gesture can go, don't you think?
As far as hobbies go, I'm writing a novel. I'm on a 4th draft. In the spring and summer, my favourite thing to do is to go to the park and play my clarinet for a while, or read a book. I love to cook, seriously love to cook. I can cook mean Italian dishes, oh, and I'm a wine snob, well, not really, but yeah. Personality wise, I'm huge on humor and sarcasm--including knowing when to use it and when not to.
I graduated UM-Flint with a BA in French Language and Literature and International Studies. I took French and International Relations courses in Paris. It was so awesome that I went twice, and have been to Paris 3 times. These were major shaping points in my life, even if my apartment complex caught on fire.
Political
I'm liberal; I'm a democrat; I'm a feminist; I'm a marxist; I'm a utopian. I used to be president of the College Democrats. I enjoy political discussions.
I am for gay marriage, not civil unions. I believe that circumcising people is evil. I am against censorship. I am vehement about keeping the separation of church and state. I believe that safe-sex and evolution should be taught in schools.
Religious
Touchy subject, huh? Well, the best way to say this, I think, is that I consider myself to be an Agnostic. Doesn't mean that I don't believe anything, it's that I don't claim to know anything--or ever could.
My Name
Okay, about the name Zea, it's pronounced just like "Z." Although it is pronounced like the last letter, I'm named after the upper left island of this picture. Cool, huh?

I'd like to meet:

It'd be nice/polite if you sent me a note instead of just asking for me to add you, unless I already know you, of course.

As far as friends, I like open-minded people, compassionate people, people who care about social injustice. As far as anything more than just friends, someone who is all the things I look for in a friend and who has depth and is also well-balanced. I like people who can balance a healthy mix of logic and emotion, going out and staying in, et cetera. Normal yet unique works, so too does rational, realistic, sensitive, and intelligent. I can't stress that more. Ideally, I'd like someone who knows or has experienced something profound. I hate judgmental people and liars.
