DO YOU REMEMBER WHAT JOE STRUMMER SAID?

Add to My Profile | More Videos
Jake is from Boston. He grew up in Hardcore. Cut his teeth in Cast Iron Hike on Victory Records. Then he formed the Confidence Men and released Love and Bombs on Yep Roc Records in late 2004. The Press and the Dutch loved it. The Boston Phoenix said it sounded like Gram Parsons fronting the Attractions. Clearly there is no drug testing going on at the Boston Phoenix. Jake won a couple of Boston music awards for best vocalist (joke! ha! ever hear of John Pohida???) and toured as much as they'd let him - opening for the Figgs, Jon Spencer, John Doe, Tommy Stinson, Steve Earle, My Morning Jacket, Evan Dando, the Von Bondies, etc, etc, blah, blah, blah...
Jake's new record is not a record by one of his previous bands, the Confidence Men or Cast Iron Hike. This record is stripped down and raw. There are no Sabbath sized guitars or pretty three-part harmonies to hide behind. Jake plays and sings everything (yikes) with the exception of one song by the legendary LA hardcore band, X. Jake's friend, John Doe, lends his vocal and buzzsaw talents to the tune Hot House. Paul Kolderie (Radiohead, Pixies) and Adam Taylor provide the serial killer production. They prayed at an alter called “echoplex” and made the record in two days. One day to play and sing and one day to mix.
Jake has this to say about his new record, "The folk singer is dead. His bones are buried in the basement of your local chain coffeshop. These are hardcore times. Folk music, hardcore music... Immediate, simple. Protest songs, ballads, breakdowns. Raw, primal and of the people. This is not my record this is hardcore folk!"
Look for live shows with this new material, a new video, a new web site and some new mp3's on this page in the very near future. New, new, new. The old way is through.
Yeah!
