I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I love movies, dancing, hiking, and traveling when I get the opportunity. My sister and I go to the Michigan football games together, and there is not much better than some good ol' college football rivalry - especially in the midst of all of the fans in Michigan Stadium on game day. GO BLUE!! I also enjoy watching hockey - not only the Red Wings, but my two young nephews.
A recent passion - as you can probably see from my profile - is attending concerts, and I've come to realize how much I enjoy concert photography. If you would like to see some of the pictures that I've taken, click here to check out the sets on my Flickr account. I hope to showcase this more on my page. If you would be interested in helping me make a banner to direct people to my photos, let me know.
I love meeting new people ... and reconnecting with people that I haven't seen in quite some time. There is something special about those interactions - and you really never know what will become of those encounters. I most enjoy meeting people with a strong creative side. I find that they really inspire me to step outside of my usual comfort zone and tap into my own creativity - something that I don't explore nearly enough. But really I find that I tend to get along well with anyone that I meet. I try to find that common ground that we share and make the most of the interaction.
It probably won't take you long to discover that I am a rather large fan of a particular band - 30STM - in fact, I'm a proud member of the Echelon. In attending several 30STM concerts across the country (and beyond), I've not only loved the opportunity to interact with the band, but also other members of the Echelon who come to support them. This is a slideshow of pictures from one of my first grand adventure excursions - a trip out to Denver and Salt Lake City. It's a weekend that I will never forget - mostly due to the people that I had the chance to meet.
I have had many other grand adventures that have given me the opportunity to connect with some truly amazing people and other bands that I doubt I would have connected with otherwise. So I look forward to continue this journey and meet up with more cool people and talented musicians.
Music has always been a large part of my life. I enjoy listening to a variety of music - but especially 30 Seconds to Mars, Nine Inch Nails, The Sunstreak, Kill Hannah, Envy on the Coast, Paper Rival (formerly Keating), As Tall As Lions, Kaddisfly, Our Lady Peace (and Raine Maida's new solo material), Incubus, Sting, Bush, and others depending on what mood I'm in. I love dancing and enjoy club music as well as house, techno, industrial, and some hip-hop.
If you haven't seen 30STM's new video for "From Yesterday" yet, be sure to check it out!! It's really a short film (11 1/2 minutes) filmed entirely in China. It is not only cinematic but epic. It is beautifully done and has given me a whole new appreciation for the song. You can view it on my profile page and they just released an HD version. Just click on this banner:

I also enjoy early music/classical - favorite composers/works include: Bach (esp the Brandenburg Concertos), Chopin, Mozart, Vivaldi, Josquin des Pres, Arvo Part, Handel, Barber’s Adagio for Strings, and Orff’s Carmina Burana. I've had the privilege of seeing many amazing performances from some of the world's finest orchestras, chamber ensembles, and recitalists over the last twelve years because of UMS - experiences that I am so grateful to have. I can't say that jazz music is a favorite, but I have a deep appreciation for it, especially Wynton Marsalis/Jazz at Lincoln Center and an amazing local band The Macpodz, who have brought jazz to life for me in a new way. I do enjoy Afro-Cuban jazz, Latin jazz, and some vocal jazz.
LotR, Pirates of the Caribbean, Cruel Intentions, Grosse Pointe Blank, Harry Potter, The Count of Monte Cristo, Kingdom of Heaven, The Princess Bride, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Sliding Doors, The Red Violin, Much Ado About Nothing, Frequency, The Crow ... I could go on, but well ... yep, I love movies.
Let's see - Heroes, Lost, Top Chef, Project Runway, Stargate SG-1 (Stargate Atlantis is good too, but SG-1 is better).
I don't do as much reading as I would like and have a long list of books that I am trying to get through. I'm a big fan of C.S. Lewis and Anne Rice ... yes, an odd pairing. I also loved John Berendt's Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, so I'm looking forward to reading The City of Falling Angels. I have some catching up to do on the Harry Potter series. I also enjoy reading historical fiction and the classics. I tend to read more during the summer down at the park. I get too distracted otherwise.
Using the term "hero" is tricky, because to me it seems to mean someone that you idolize. But I've found that it is unwise to put people on too high of a pedestal. But I definitely respect and admire my mother - not only for all that she has overcome, but because of the kind, generous, and caring person that she is in spite of it all. She is one of a kind, and I am so fortunate to have her in my life.
