About
Man is condemned to be free; because once thrown into the world, he is responsible for everything he does. - Jean Paul Sarte
In search of meaning, I read a book a couple years ago called Power vs. Force by David Hawkings that gave me a cosmic smack in the face. A girl I was dating at the time recommended it to me, so I picked it up the next day. The books focuses on how our perspective of the world literally determines what we can achieve (and also discusses really cool theories of applied kinesiology). The book was freeing to me because I found it provided a cohesive framework of existence: we are nothing more than points of energy. Energy that supports life is by virtue 'true' and energy that does not support life is 'false'. Seems like a simple idea, right? But there are so many competing ways to see truth in the world! Anyway, it appealed to me because it cleared a big part of the problem out of the path: subjectivity. At the core of every idea is an objective question: does this support life or not?
While reading the book, I realized that because life is assembled by perspective, and because perspective is a reflection of our state of human consciousness, it is fundamentally un-true to pass judgment on anyone. Imagine that some universally powerful being (God, Creator, whatever you want to call it) was able to see your every intention. Would that being have cause to judge you? Or would that being see the 'big picture' of your human development? I believe that once we accept a position of non-judgment on others, existence becomes much more tolerable. Only when we accept that no one is "out to get us" or that our path towards fulfillment is not impeded by an uncontrollable force can we begin to reach our ultimate purpose.
As soon as I recognized the power of this idea, I realized that there was a burden. We are all infinitely capable. We can powerfully affect other people's lives through our level energy/truth. The question is what are we going to do about it? The book really doesn't reconcile the place of an economy. We assume that we have to get a job because jobs are simply around us 'out there', but all of us are looking for some greater fulfillment in what we do.
Well, in reading over what I've just written, I realize that it is wildly philosophical and dense with concepts that are difficult to express in so few sentences. All I was supposed to do is tell you "about me." It's hard to tell you who I am by accomplishments, friends, and hobbies, so, for now, all I can give you is my perspective.
I will bore you no more with my philosophical meanderings. However, if anything I've written strikes a chord with you, let me know.
Human reason exhausts itself ceaselessly to explain the inexplicable.
Explanation itself is high comedy, as preposterous as trying to
see the back of one's own head, but the vanity of the ego is boundless,
and it becomes even more overblown by this very attempt to make
sense of nonsense. The mind, in its identity with the ego, cannot
by definition, comprehend reality; if it could, it would instantly
dissolve itself upon recognizing its own illusory nature. It's only
beyond the paradox of mind transcending ego that what Is stands
forth, self-evident and dazzling in its infinite Absoluteness. And
then all of these words are useless. -David Hawkings, Power
Vs. Force
