I have been up and I have been down. When I was down I was living my life as I wanted to without respect to my core beliefs. When I am up it is because I have learned that I can not do it on my own. I have finally come to the realization that "it is not I that live but that Christ that lives within me". The rest of my life journey is to share Christ with all who will lend an ear. God has told us that he doesn't want any to perish but to come to Him through His Son and to have life everlasting. Isn't that something that everyone should desire?Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. Joined in Army just out of high school. Left the girl I loved with plans to be able to come back and marry her. Got back 6 months later and had to wait for a date. Broken hearted, 3 years didn't mean much. Got in the US Army Signal Corp Drill team at Ft. Monmouth, NJ. Went on parades and the Ed Sullivan Show. Got really really lonely, still broken hearted, married after a month, should of waited. Had 3 boys. Got out of Army and my daughter was born 7 days later. Had odd jobs and joined the Border Patrol shipped to Southern California. Spent 3 years and transferred to Northern Maine. What in the world is a southern boy doing in a place that on a day in February it was 57 below with wind gusts over 50 mph. Snowed over 200 inches. Lasted 2 years and got some sense and transferred to Dallas, Texas. This was a change out of the Border Patrol and into Criminal Investigation Division. Last assignment of 8 years before retiring in 1997 as a Senior Special Agent in the Vice Presidential Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force. After 33 years I retired in Texas. Mom died a week later. Things just weren't going real well in this ole boy life and it hadn't been for a LONG while. Divorced in 92. I remarried to a lady I had met through work who was from Louisiana . We moved to there, never dreamed I would leave my beloved Texas, but her folks were there and elderly. Here she is with me: It was there I found my calling,I learned about Therapeutic Riding for Handicapped Children and have been involved for over 6 years. It has been the most rewarding part of my life. Just to see the smiles on faces that don't have much to smile about. Seeing those small bodies develop strength. It is the best feeling in the world and I believe something God wanted me to do. The real sad part of this story is that in October 2003 I was told I had early onset Alzheimer's. Meds help. but only slow down the process. I was asked by a reporter for a magazine article what it was like to have Alzheimer's? I told him it was like being buried before you are dead.
