About Me

On March 3, 1997, Dexter Patrick Browne purchased a 35 mm camera while living in Houston, TX which tipped his life in a much different direction.Dexter attended Howard University on a Swimming Scholarship and earned a degree in Civil Engineering in 1990.He arrived in Los Angeles in 1999 and quickly developed a devoted following of clients that ranged from Celebrities to Gang members. Dexter is truly a photographer "for the people" and his wide array of images confirm it.Dexter's work has appeared in every major national and several international publications. His growing client list includes names like Vanessa Williams, Ray Lewis, Bill Duke, Lisa Raye, Raye says "Dexter is the only photography that captures my eyes", Cash Money, Rick James, Congressman Jackson - IL, Gabrielle Union and Laila Ali and America's Next Top Model„ Eva Pigford. "A true Movie and Music industry photographer, and yet so much more! - Lynn Jeter -Publicist and friend. In a recent popular web blog article written by Malik J.: "101 things to do", Dexter was named in a field of 25 photographers "to shoot with" that included the likes of Gordon Parks and David LeChapelle.Dexter is currently in the final stages of his first book titled "Urban Observation: A Photographer Speaks" which offers a slice of Urban America that before has only dwelled in the imagination of some. "It is a definitive "top to bottom" profile of the Los Angeles culture and because of this, stands alone in range. It "connects" a lot of dots. A must read!"Of the many ways critics have attempted to describe Dexter's work, the words "colorful" and "compelling" keep coming up. The festive lifestyle of his childhood in Trinidad & Tobago spawned an intense and almost obsessive love of color, contrast, and most importantly, of humanity. Dexter travels effortlessly in and out of very diverse arenas with his resolve to stand as a "non judgmental" observer. The souls of all who have stood in front of Dexter's mechanic eye, have been sequestered and ordained in his limitless compositions. The "iconic" photograph of his wife titled "InfraLisa" is currently gracing the cover of Artscape Magazine in Los Angeles where his following grows with the passing of each day.Today Dexter enjoys the ultimate reward of his loving wife, Lisa Browne, and his three daughters, Lexi, Lena, and Lyla. They ground him in a world where each day sings a different song. His creative workspace is located at Empire Studios, a 5,000 sq.f.t state of the art studio. Empire Studios is located in the heart of Los Angeles on La Cienega Blvd. He works by appointment only, unless of course he jumps out of his truck and photographs you "in an instant", which is common! "Art is everywhere, in everything at every-time, and thus for everyone" - Dexter BrowneContact: 323.294.5594 www.dexterbrowne.com [email protected]
