My Interests

I travel, I read, I write... plus the usual punky geek interests apply: piercings, mohawks, toas, architecture and ripping the sleeves off perfectly good t-shirts. I like devil sticking, playing frisbee in the park and BBQs. I like drrrinking, dancing and being silly. I love language and philosophy and good conversation. In fact good conversation is probably the most important thing to me: intelligent, silly, intense, whatever. So long as it's good.

I'd like to meet:

You wanna read my stuff? Check out my blogs for the briefest splash. COMMENTS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME! :o) ...

Music:

Big on electronica (especially German), funk, indie, rock, punk, ska, reggae, folk, country, experimental sound and wierd world music, but all said and done,I never say no to the occasional cheese.

Movies:

I like arty farty foreign films and old skool classics - Withnail and I, Labyrinth, Mary Poppins, Amelie... that kinda thing.

Television:

Documentaries and the occasional drama. But otherwise telly is best to be avoided. It sucks my brain out and then spits it back all mushy and chewed. Not great.

Books:

Much admired writers include: Samuel Beckett, Gunter Grass, Peter Carey, Ian McEwan, Salman Rushdie, Margaret Atwood, Toni Morrison, Jeanette Winterson, Angela Carter, Ali Smith, Ben Okri, Barbara Kingsolver, Jonathan Safran Foer, Sylvia Plath... there's more...WOW FACTOR BOOKS: The Tin Drum, by Gunter Grass ; The Famished Road, by Ben Okri ; Poisonwood Bible, by Barbara Kingsolver ; One Hundred Years of Solitude, by Gabriel Garcia Marquez ;AWESOME READS: Fury, by Salman Rushdie ; The Bluest Eye, by Toni Morrison ; The Well of Loneliness, by Radcliffe Hall ; The Bell Jar, by Sylvia Plath ; The Passion, by Jeannette Winterson ; most things by Ian McEwan, in particular Enduring love and his short stories ; The Collector, by John Fowles ; The Handmaid's Tale, by Margaret Atwood ...DAMN GOOD READS: Miss Smilla's Feeling for Snow, by Peter Hoeg ; Oryx and Crake, by Margaret Atwood ; Fingersmith, by Sarah Waters ; His Dark Materials, by Phillip Pullman ; Whit by Iain Banks ... (this list is endless)FAVE POETS: Edwin Morgan, Charles Simic... (end of list) I have to admit, I'm not very adventurous when it comes to reading poetry. Any suggestions?

Heroes:

Spiderman, tank girl, mary poppins, tina turner... the usual.

The Angel Pieces

* It should have been beautiful. I had always imagined it to be beautiful. Like floating. Like falling but never hitting ground. Stopping just in time and then... ... nothing. He must have danced, I...
