About Me
David Crosby, formerly of supergroup Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, reckons since Joni Mitchell retired, Shawn Colvin is the best female songwriter in the world. But then he probably hasn't heard of Gemma Hayes, Shaz Oye, Michele-Ann Kelly, Nina Hynes, Ann Scott or Siobhán O'Brien.-------------------- MQ (IMRO's music quarterly) April, '07ALSO Check out video of Like a Habit at "YOU TUBE" search like a habit

Siobhan hails from Limerick, Ireland. She has been entertaining audiences with her individual, unique voice, and style of songwriting her whole life, literally. Siobhan made her first audio recording at the tender age of six, with an old Burl Ives sea shanty.
Siobhan has roots from four generations in the music industry. Most notably, she is the niece of '60s legend, Brendan Bowyer ( www.Brendanbowyer.com). Siobhan has been described as "caressing a lyric with sophisticated simplicity." She has an untouched voice and has been compared to Joan Baez, Sarah McLaughlin, and Sheryl Crow.
In addition to Bob Dylan inviting her to join him on stage, Siobhan has supported groups and acts such as: Christy Moore, Donavan, Maria McKee, Sharon Shannon, Mick Flannery and many more. Â
Her first solo EP, "Mumbo Jumbo," received critical acclaim throughout Ireland. Her second EP, "Like a Habit," charted No. 4 in the Irish Indie charts. Check out the video here directed by Mark Long.
Siobhan garnered more praise when Unisong International voted Siobhán in the top 10% of undiscovered songwriters with the song "Like A Habit."
Extending her fan base to America, Siobhán performed at the renowned SXSW indie music convention in Austin, Texas in 1999. Reviewing Siobhan's performance, Margaret Moser of the Austin Chronicle penned: "The moody 'Like a Habit' from Limerick, Ireland, Siobhán O'Brien makes it clear the Emerald Isle isn't running short of female vocalists. O'Brien's learned well from the Sinéad O‚Connor's of her homeland, but she's also got a strong measure of rebel in her."Â

It has a neat pop-rock beat that's in stark contrast to the graphic anti-war lyrics: bodies in body bags/beautiful bodies/don't they look good/don't they look nice? It sure makes a change from all those songwriters struggling to find their inner adult. "Indians" looks at the  plight of the Native American in a track embellished by gutsy guitar. "My Man" is more laid back and is a charming country-folk tune, with O'Brien's voice at its most seductive. With three gems this good, I broke the habit of a lifetime and listened to track four, 'Naked'. I wasn't disappointed.

Later came Limerick's Siobhan O'Brien who scored with her intelligent songs, despite under-using her skills on the harmonica. Â O'Brien had been equally impressive on the acoustic soundstage the previous day where Kevin Doherty also put his name on a ticket for a future big-time status. Â
