Better known in the Ruff Ryders Records camp - and throughout the rap world - as Drag-On, a young street ruler is prepared to do exactly that with his new long-player, Hell And Back.I've been away for a minute, but not really: "I've been continuing to drop street joints on mixtapes,"I also dropped my own street album called 'Back From Hell' to get people ready for my new album." My debut Ruff Ryders joint, Opposite of H2O - which was RIAA-certified gold, selling over 600,000 copies - was released in 2000. Although it seems I stepped away from the game briefly, I was featured in two major films: Exit Wounds, starring fellow Ruff Ryder (and his mentor/brother) DMX and Steven Segal (which grossed over $50 million at the box office); and Cradle 2 The Grave, starring DMX and Jet-Li (which grossed over $35 million). The album's title accurately reflects the Bronx, NY, native's experiences; the hell I've been through in the music industry and in real life. From my mom Terrie Smith's battle with throat cancer, to family members' struggles with drugs, to street fights (I carries a permanent scar from a stabbing), to losing unborn twin boys to a miscarriage, to living and sleeping wherever he could for a while (including subway trains and park benches), My reality comes from a deeper place. "I've lived all over New York City," I remembers, "Jamaica, Queens; Yonkers; Bed-Stuy... I rep the Bronx cause that's where I'm originally from [Soundview's Bronxdale Projects]."I'm coming with many different flows this time around. I'm also bringing my pain: I built Hell And Back around the track "Feel My Pain" (produced by Sparksz), which gives an honest portrayal of the hard knocks I'm experienced in life. As far as my lyrical flow, I do whatever the beat tells me to do, that gives the songs a deeper resonance. my surroundings also inspire me greatly: "I'm in the 'hood every day, "I'm very street-oriented; I think that shows in my music."Hell And Back includes joints from hot producers Rockwilder ("Let's Get Crazy" featuring DMX) and Jerry Stokes ("My First Born" and "Hurt No More"), but also features new flavors from up-and-coming producers like Needlz (first single "Put Your Drinks Down"), Neo ("Tell Your Friends" featuring Jadakiss), Black Key ("I'm a Ryder" featuring Baby from Cash Money & TQ) and Teflon ("U Had Me" featuring Eve). The album is very diverse because of the different producers and artists."Hell and Back" has some real raw beats on it like on "Tell Your Friends" featuring Jadakiss. "Hell and Back" deserves its respect when track 5 "Respect My Gangsta" starts. Styles P and I spit fire! After this one you don't have time to breathe in/out when a dope beat comes out of your speakers. "Tell Your Friends" have you clicking the 'repeat-button'.'Brother' DMX is also included on track "Let's Get Crazy". A pity that I and DMX don't get crazy because it could have been a dope track.The second part of the album has more R'n'B tunes on it like "I'm A Ryder" featuring TQ & Baby and "U Had Me" featuring Eve. I even gets lyrically emotional on "My First Child".Overall My new album "Hell and Back" has more diversity many other artists wish for. You can find hard & raw ["Tell Your Friends"], R'n'B ["Holla At Your Boy"] and even strong & lyrical tracks ["Life is Short"]. I delivers that raw shit, dope beats and even includes R'n'B. For you hard heads: don't write of this album because of the R'n'B element. The album still delivers enough to get your head nodding.
