About Me

I am an outgoing, happy person who loves to be spontaneous and have fun. I love being outdoors and I love anything having to do with the arts. I laugh and smile a lot because...well why not life's too short not to. I will try almost anything once and I am very adventurous. I love helping others and I believe in giving back because I have been given so much in my life. I have a dog named Sydney who is adorable and I am currently serving in the Peace Corps in Suriname. I live in a Maroon village called Drepada (which I learned means dry paddle). I wake up to the Amazon Jungle every morning - and loud reggae music.
Top 10 reasons to live in Suriname:
1. You always have a nice golden brown tan
2. The only size beer you can buy is a 40
3. The river is like one stop shopping, you can wash clothes, dishes, yourself, clean your meat, and gather drinking water
4. The minimum bet at the blackjack tables at the casino is 5 SRD which comes out to less than 2 American dollars
5. It is totally okay to pee in public
6. 2 words - bucket bath
7. If you ever thought you were unattractive, every single guy here thinks your beautiful and wants you to take him to America
8. We live in the reggae captial of Africa (yes Africa)
9. Free reign over any medication I want. I could supply a pharmacy - or a drug addict - with all the stuff I have
10. Cause every morning, I wake up to the Amazon rainforest!
Top 10 reasons to live in Denver:
1. Who wouldn't want to be a mile high all the time?
2. Higher alcohol beer - there is no such thing as 3.2
3. World's greatest ski areas are only an hour away
4. It only costs $4 to see the Cubs play the Rockies
5. You have a breathtaking view of the Rocky Mountains from pretty much anywhere
6. More micro breweries per capita than any other state
7. The best state for outdoor sports (hiking, camping, rafting, biking, snowboarding, caving, tubing, climbing, fishing....and I'm sure I've done some others
8. I-100 was passed in November (only the second city in the country)
9. Tony Award winning theatre and great improv
10. Cause it's just better here!
Interesting/Wierd thing about me: I have a gnome that travels with me and I take pictures of him all over (yes just like Amelie)
Biggest fear: Clowns (this is serious and very bad, just ask my friends about Halloween)

My Interests

Hiking, camping, rafting, snowboarding, Las Vegas (LOVE Las Vegas), traveling, theatre, improv, music, concerts, photography, Peace Corps, animals, bowling, yoga, cooking, dancing, reading, learning, I could go on - I like a lot of different things.

I'd like to meet:

Nee bedankt! My friends and my Peace Corps sembe are better than anything I could have asked for in my life. I'm partial to Bakaa konde womis. I also especially love my saramaccan mujee Basia-Mai and the Upper Suriname River. Carnival was amazing!!

Music:

I like all types of music but my favorites are Guster (Number 1 favorite band!), Dispatch, David Gray, Ben Folds, Kelly Clarkson(sorry), Lucky Boys Confusion, Flogging Molly, String Cheese Incident, Dave Matthews Band, and anything Oldies (50s, 60s and early 70s).
Suriname Music:
Gentleman, Jah Youth, Mix 2000, Ritchie Spice, Joe, Sariboys, Bailou, Natural Black and Reda Boys

Movies:

Right now the top 5 movies that I could watch over and over again are Brokeback Mountain (go see it!) Amelie, Italian Job, tie between Harold and Kumar go to White Castle and Out Cold, and Saved (If you ever went to Catholic school, you need to see this movie!) okay so that was six but they are all awesome in different ways.

Television:

I hate tv so only 2 shows have managed to overtake me so that I am obsessed with them, 24 and Family Guy. But I do like to watch Food Network and the Travel Channel sometimes.

Books:

Recently - Road Fever by Tim Cahill, anything by Tim Robbins and Chuck Palanik, Harry Potter of course and books about Suriname.

Heroes:

One of the most amazing people ever, my grandma. Anyone who is out there fighting to make a difference - especially in the third world.
