About Me

Born Katherine Sian Moennig on December 29, 1976 in Philadelphia, PA. Mother was a Broadway dancer and father was a violin maker. Prefered climbing trees and skateboarding rather than playing dressup and tea sets. First stepped on stage at age 10 in a Children's Theatre Workshop production of Winnie the Pooh and eventually wrote and directed with a friend an improvised version of the play where it was performed at Philadelphia's Free Library. Continued doing school productions before moving to New York and entering the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. Within two months of graduation, landed an apprenticeship at the prestigious Williamstown Theatre Festival and acquired a wealth of experience working behind the scenes. During a second stint at Williamstown, appeared in a production of Shakespeare's As You Like It. Made television debut as the elusive Jake Pratt in Young Americans, a girl masquerading as a boy at the all-male Rawley Academy. Won a central role in a music video for the Canadian band Our Lady Peace's "Is Anybody Home" just prior to landing first television series with Young Americans. Also auditioned for Boys Don't Cry (1999). During leisure time, enjoys sleeping late, spending time with friends and walking around New York City. If hadn't gone into acting would have studied Marine Biology or joined the FBI. First cousin to leading actress Gwyneth Paltrow and director Jake Paltrow and actresses Hillary Danner. Niece of producer Bruce Paltrow, actress Blythe Danner and actor Harry Danner. In early 2000, made film debut in The Ice People. It wasn't until July 2000, however, that received a bigger audience by accepting a role on the WB's Young Americans. Played Jacqueline "Jake" Pratt, a girl pretending to be a boy in order to attend a prestigious all-boys school; the series also featured Kate Bosworth and Ian Somerhalder. After only two months on the air, however, the show was cancelled. In 2001 took roles in the films Slo-Mo and Love the Hard Way, and appeared in the feature film The Shipping News with Julianne Moore and Kevin Spacey. Although working with major celebrities on this film, received little recognition for thepart. In October 2001, made a guest appearance on Law & Order, but when the year came to an end, was out of work. Spent 2002 looking for promising acting roles, but found nothing. In 2003, made another guest appearance on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit . also penned a deal to play the role of Shane McCutcheon, a lesbian on the Showtime series The L Word. The series' lesbian subject matter made it watercooler material, and the hype has yet to fade. In 2006, will appear in Art School Confidential with top players Anjelica Huston and John Malkovich.
